Abstract: Disclosed is a coded testing apparatus. In accordance with the disclosed invention, a user may perform a medical test which yields an encoded test result. The user then communicates the encoded test result to a facility, whereupon the facility provides the result to the user. The invention allows for many of the advantages of “instant” medical testing, such as convenience and anonymity, but avoids substantial drawbacks associated with known “instant” tests, such as the inability to request demographic information, the inability to provide appropriate medical oversight, and the inability to provide adequate medical counseling.

A storage medium (15) has stored therein a medical provider information stored program (22) and a medical provider database (24). The medical provider database describes clinical services or procedures available from each provider by clinical codes or procedure codes. The data processing system (13) is configured by the medical provider information stored program (22) when executed by the data processing system (13) to use the clinical codes or procedure codes to identify a medical provider from the medical provider database for providing a specific medical service to a patient.

The NMS (20) has a patient assessment component (22). The patient assessment component consists of a set of information tools which are used by health care professionals to assess patient conditions and assist in the selection of health care services and to help patients find appropriate care at the appropriate time. The tools include a comprehensive, automated set of proprietary assessment algorithms (26) which are based on branched chain algorithms utilizing Bayes theorem. These unique, clinical tools enable a trained nurse or other health care professional to sort patients into different risk categories, safely and effectively without requiring a medical diagnosis.

Abstract: A strip of pliable or flexible material that is sized to circumferentially extend about a digit of a person from whom a blood sample is to be taken. The strip of pliable material has upper and lower generally parallel and planar surfaces. Also, the flexible film or strip defines a throughhole between opposite ends of the film. The lower or bottom surface of the strip has a skin contacting adhesive thereon allowing the film to be tautly applied about the person's digit, with the throughhole circumscribing an underlying surface skin area that is to be punctured to create blood flow. The taut application of the strip about the digit inhibits venus blood return thus enhancing blood flow from the puncture and thereby providing an adequate blood specimen even in person's that have a difficultly bleeding. A method of obtaining a blood specimen is also disclosed.
