Abstract: A low-noise amplifier which is equipped with at least one redundancy circuit which is connected in parallel to an amplifying circuit, so that the low-noise amplifier operates without a significant signal loss even when an abnormality takes place in the amplifying circuit and the amplifying circuit is not replaced or troubleshooted. The low-noise amplifier includes a redundancy circuit (30) effectively operable instead of an amplifying circuit (24) when the amplifying circuit (24) is in an abnormal condition, and at least one switch (22) activates the redundancy circuit (30) when the amplifying circuit (24) is abnormal. In a preferred embodiment, the redundancy circuit (30) includes a transmission line (32) for bypassing an input RF signal when the amplifying circuit (24) is in an abnormal condition. In an alternative, the redundancy circuit (30) includes a redundant amplifying circuit (34), so that the redundant amplifying circuit (34) can amplify the input RF signal in place of the amplifying circuit (24).

Abstract: An antenna assembly for reducing the receiving space in a portable phone which employs the antenna assembly and for enhancing the bandwidth and radiation efficiency when the antenna assembly is in a retracted position. The antenna assembly includes a helical antenna and a whip antenna. The helical antenna is powered by capacitive coupling between a conductive layer therein and a feed conductor electrically connected to a signal processing circuit in the portable phone. Also, the whip antenna consists of two stages in a vertical direction in a manner that one of the stages can be retracted into the other one. The helical antenna includes a conducting layer disposed beneath the helical element; the feed conductor electrically connected to the signal processing circuit at least when said antenna assembly is retracted into the portable phone; and an insulating layer disposed between the conducting layer and the feed conductor.
Abstract: A capacitive coupled extendable antenna for portable radio communication devices with improved operating characteristics is disclosed. The extendable antenna includes a quarter-wavelength helical antenna, a quarter-wavelength whip antenna movable between the extended position and the retracted position through the helical antenna, and an electrically conductive sleeve acting as the feed point of the antenna. The helical antenna is electrically insulated from the sleeve so that the helical antenna is capacitively coupled to the sleeve. The whip antenna is enclosed within an insulating tube, which is disposed within a guide for longitudinal movement therethrough. The whip antenna is disposed in electrically insulated relation to the sleeve in the retracted position and electrically connected to the sleeve in the extended position via a stopper.

Abstract: An improvement to a stamping press having a blanking punch and die combination comprising a blanking die defining an opening, a cooperating blanking punch dimensioned closely to mate with the opening wherein the die edge defining the opening is radiused to cause metal flow, a stock engaging shedder displaceable within the die opening to engage and clamp stock, and a stripper encircling the blanking punch and displaceable therealong to remove surplus stock after a blanking operation. The improvement comprises the stripper being disposed to engage and clamp stock being punched by the blanking punch and die.
