Patent number: 4811683Abstract: A wheel retainer prevents a wheel of a sliding or bypass door from jumping off of the floor track on which the wheel rolls. Portions are provided on the lower portion of the retainer for slidably engaging a downwardly facing portion of the track for inhibiting upward movement of the retainer from the track. Preferably this in the form of an L-shaped hook having a base wider than the opening of a dovetail slot in the track and a neck narrower than the opening of the slot. The retainer can then be installed only by pivoting the retainer relative to the track for inserting the hook. The retainer also has portions for engaging an upper portion of the wheel to prevent it from being lifted from the track. The preferred embodiment is a D-shape with an arcuate portion over the top of the wheel and barbs that prevent the retainer from accidentally being dislodged from the wheel.Type: GrantFiled: January 30, 1987Date of Patent: March 14, 1989Assignee: Acme General CorporationInventors: John D. Patent number: 4644992Abstract: Hardware for a bifold door includes stiles and rails fittable along the edges of a flat panel to form a door and four identical corner blocks for interconnecting the stiles and rails. Each corner block is generally rectangular and fits into a U-shaped channel in an adjacent stile and the U-shaped channel in an adjacent rail. A single hole extends through the block parallel to the stile and closer to one edge of the block than the opposite edge for receiving either a pivot or a guide, depending on the block's location on the assembled door. An orientation indicating marker on the exposed face of the block permits the four blocks to be identically oriented. When assembled to form a pair of doors, pivots are inserted into the holes in one of the pair of doors further from the edge of the door and guides are inserted into the holes nearer the edge of the other door to provide lead-off for smooth closing of the doors.Type: GrantFiled: February 4, 1986Date of Patent: February 24, 1987Assignee: Acme General CorporationInventor: Torsti T. Patent number: 4631894Abstract: A panel door comprising framing members, corner connectors and a door panel is disclosed. The framing members comprise a side wall and spaced apart first and second walls extending generally normal to the side wall. The first and second walls form a channel. The framing member comprises a deflection arm which is deflected by and which generates a return force against a door panel having an edge inserted into the front channel. Preferred framing members have a generally "E" shaped cross section and comprise a side wall and spaced apart front, intermediate and rear walls, the front and intermediate walls form a front channel and the intermediate wall comprises a deflection arm. The deflection arm of preferred stiles extends from a pivot position between the edges of the intermediate wall toward the front and side walls. The deflection arm of preferred rails is bent at a position between its edges and extends from the bend away from the side wall and toward the plane of the front wall.Type: GrantFiled: April 26, 1982Date of Patent: December 30, 1986Assignee: Acme General CorporationInventor: Torsti T. Patent number: 4407476Abstract: A combined shelf and clothes bar assembly is adapted for fastening to the walls of different sized clothes closets for supporting a shelf panel and a hanger bar that can both be cut to match the width of the closet. The assembly includes a pair of elongated front and rear edge cleats of generally E-shaped cross-section for being secured to the front and rear edges of the shelf panel. The edge cleats can be cut to match the length of the shelf panel. The edge cleats have elongated channels that slidably engage the front and rear edges of the shelf, and inwardly facing lower flanges spaced below the underside of the shelf. A pair of outer shelf support brackets have slots for slidably receiving opposite end portions of the shelf panel and the channel and lower flange portions of the edge cleats. A center support bracket supports the shelf panel.Type: GrantFiled: February 8, 1982Date of Patent: October 4, 1983Assignee: Acme General CorporationInventor: Jerry L. Bohannan

Patent number: 4379603Abstract: A drawer handle can be removably mounted over a drawer front without fasteners or the like. The drawer front has a recessed region to facilitate opening the drawer, and the drawer handle can be snap-locked onto the drawer front to cover the recess and provide an optional means of opening the drawer. The drawer handle is of inverted U-shaped channel configuration including elongated front and rear flanges extending along a narrow base of the channel. The front and rear flanges can be spread apart to facilitate slipping the channel over the drawer front so the base of the channel rests on the upper edges of the drawer front, and the front and rear flanges overlie front and rear faces of the drawer front. The rear flange covers the recess in the drawer front, while the front flange is foreshortened relative to the rear flange and extends across the mid-point of the recess to provide a means for opening the drawer.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 1980Date of Patent: April 12, 1983Assignee: Acme General CorporationInventors: John R. Patent number: 4278196Abstract: A readily assembled tray for storing articles under a bed or the like is formed from a flat, elastically bendable rectangular sheet (12) which is bent near each edge and corner for forming integral bottom and sides of the tray without creasing the sheet. Each corner of the sheet is notched to permit such bending. Four rigid side rails (13) are detachably connectable along edges of the sheet for collectively forming a rigid rim for the tray. Four corner connectors (14) secure edges of the notches together at the corners and secure the rails on the edges of the sheet. Preferably each of the corner connectors is an integral plastic molding in the form of a concave clamshell mating with an outside of a corner and a convex clamshell mating with an inside of the corner and connected to the outer clamshell by a membrane of plastic serving as a hinge line running diagonally across the corner. Elastic tangs (37) latch the two moieties of each corner connector to each other and to the sheet.Type: GrantFiled: December 26, 1979Date of Patent: July 14, 1981Assignee: Acme General CorporationInventor: Harold H. Patent number: 4193619Abstract: A pair of free linkages are disposed in a door latch housing between the housing, the latch bolt, and the latch bolt actuating buttons. Preferably, each linkage comprises a toggle hinge having first and second sides joined by a pivotable connection in a one piece polypropylene construction. The sides of the hinge taper approaching the pivotable connection so the pivotable connection is substantially thinner than the first and second sides. The taper of the first and second sides differs in alternating fashion across the pivotable connection to form a bearing surface alternately on one side of the pivotable connection and the other. Responsive to the movement of a privacy button to its latched position, movement of one of the actuating buttons is prevented without preventing movement of the other actuating button. Responsive to movement of the other actuating button, the privacy button returns to its unlatched position.Type: GrantFiled: May 15, 1978Date of Patent: March 18, 1980Assignee: Acme General CorporationInventor: Torsti T. Patent number: 4106158Abstract: This pivot assembly for a swinging or folding door can be readily adjusted for door height or position of the door pivot axis relative to the door jamb. An L-shaped bracket is connected into the corner between the floor and door jamb. The bracket has a number of discontinuities parallel to the floor to prevent translation. A pivot is mounted on the lower corner of the door, preferably by a plastic sleeve. The sleeve is threaded on the inside and a threaded pin is mounted therein. The lower end of the pin has means directly engaging the jamb bracket to prevent rotation and translation of the pin. To adjust the door in most embodiments it is lifted so that the head of the pin is out of engagement with the teeth in the slot. The pin is rotated by hand to move it up or down in the threaded sleeve. The pivot axis of the pin is adjusted by moving the pin to a desired position on the bracket.Type: GrantFiled: June 21, 1976Date of Patent: August 15, 1978Assignee: Acme General CorporationInventors: Kenneth K.
