  • Patent number: 6857771
Abstract: A light stick is formed from an elongated, light-transmitting member having a plurality of grooves formed in its exterior surface and an aperture at one end for receiving a light source, such as a light-emitting diode (LED). The light from the LED is directed into the interior of the elongated member. The grooves or other recesses, reflect the light traveling along the length of the elongated member, radiating the light outwardly to enhance the brightness of the light emitted from the exterior surface along the longitudinal axis of the elongated member.

  • Patent number: 6848808
Abstract: A combination fastener and separate, manually operable lighting device includes a pair of complimentary fastener members for releasably securing portions of a portable carrying case, such as a lady's handbag, in a closed position when mating surfaces of the complementary members are placed in contact with each other. The lighting device includes a light emitting diode (LED), battery and switch, and an optional programmed microprocessor controller, that is removably secured to a first member of the pair of fastener members. The lighting device is deactivated when the mating surfaces are placed proximate to each other and is activated to illuminate an interior of the accessory when the surfaces are separated. The lighting device utilizes a reed switch which responds to a proximate magnetic force and the complimentary member includes a magnet so that the powers to the LED is turned off when the mating surfaces are brought into contact with each other.

  • Patent number: 6848807
Abstract: A compact, battery-powered LED lighting device having manual and/or magnetically actuatable switches, a microprocessor and timer is used in a retaining system that includes a first retaining pouch for receiving the lighting device and a second retaining pouch for holding a magnet, the retainers being secured to opposing sidewalls of a container, such as a ladies handbag or a briefcase, so that when the container is opened a magnetic switch in the lighting device closes the circuit actuating the LED to illuminate the interior contents of the container for a predetermined period of time. The manual switch can be used to override the timed illumination and to turn the LED on or off at any time.
