Patent number: 6832958Abstract: A system for monitoring and configuring gaming devices interconnected over a high-speed network is disclosed. The system can support a file server, one or more floor controllers, one or more pit terminals, and other terminals all interconnected over the network. Each gaming device includes an electronic module which allows the gaming device to communicate with a floor controller over a current loop network. The electronic module includes a player tracking module and a data communication node. The player tracking module includes a card reader for detecting a player tracking card inserted therein which identifies the player. The data communication node communicates with both the floor controller and the gaming device. The data communication node communicates with the gaming device over a serial interface through which the data communication node transmits reconfiguration commands.Type: GrantFiled: May 21, 2003Date of Patent: December 21, 2004Assignee: Acres Gaming, Inc.Inventors: John F. Patent number: 6565434Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling a bonusing promotion system using a bonus server interconnected to a plurality of gaming devices is described. A percentage of a wager played on each gaming device is accumulated into a bonus pool stored on the bonus server. The bonus pool is compared to a threshold value stored on the bonus server each time the bonus pool changes. One of the gaming devices is selected when the threshold value is substantially met. A bonus prize funded by the bonus pool is awarded to the selected gaming device.Type: GrantFiled: October 22, 1999Date of Patent: May 20, 2003Assignee: Acres Gaming, Inc.Inventor: John Acres

Patent number: 6431983Abstract: A method for providing incentive to players of networked slot machines includes a card reader associated with each machine and a card associated with each player. A player account accessible by a host computer on the network is created which associates the player's card with the account. A predetermined credit is applied to the player's account. In a complementary incentive, credit from the player's account is applied to the coin-in meter of a slot machine responsive to insertion of the player card into a card reader associated with the machine. In a matching incentive also implemented by the present invention, each time the player inserts a coin into the slot machine, an equal credit is debited from the player's account and applied to the coin-in meter of the machine. In both cases, the credit can only be used by the player to play the machines and cannot be cashed out.Type: GrantFiled: April 10, 2001Date of Patent: August 13, 2002Assignee: Acres Gaming, Inc.Inventor: John Acres

Patent number: 6375569Abstract: A gaming machine system having a bonus prize award mode in the play of gaming machines is disclosed. Interface units each are coupled to a respective gaming machine to receive a play signal that includes the identity of the respective machine. A central processor, that includes a data memory is linked to each of the interface units. The system is operable by the processor executing a first prize accumulation phase during which a value is added to an initial value for each play signal up to a level where the accumulating value equals a prize value that will be awarded to one of the gaming machines, and executing a second prize award winning phase during which the accumulated value remains frozen and subsequent plays of the gaming machines are separately counted for their occurrence. The play of a gaming machine causing the count to equal a prize win count value results in that gaming machine being awarded the prize value.Type: GrantFiled: May 8, 1998Date of Patent: April 23, 2002Assignee: Acres Gaming, Inc.Inventor: John F. Patent number: 6231445Abstract: A method for awarding bonuses over a gaming network having a plurality of gaming machines interconnected by a network. Play is allowed to occur on the plurality of gaming machines. A bonus period is initiating for which a bonus-triggering event (e.g. a winning combination) and an initial bonus amount is determined. The reel combinations obtained from normal play over the machines are detected and compared to the wining combination determined at the start of the bonus period. A match of the combination obtained with the winning combination initiates a bonus-triggering event that results in the bonus amount being paid out to the gaming machine which had the winning combination. In a preferred embodiment, the initial bonus amount is decremented over the bonus period so that the bonus amount won is greater if the winning combination appears at the beginning of the bonus period as opposed to near the end.Type: GrantFiled: June 26, 1998Date of Patent: May 15, 2001Assignee: Acres Gaming Inc.Inventor: John F.
