  • Patent number: 4726975
Abstract: An improvement for attaching fastener strips to other objects wherein a strip of fastener material is formed into the surface of urethane foam or the like during molding in a mold. The fastener material comprises a backing strip having an outer surface adapted to mate with the foam material during molding and a fastener strip having an outer surface comprising one-half of a fastening system such as hook and loop fastening material. The backing strip and the fastener strip are attached to one another with their respective inner surfaces in face-to-face relationship with their outer surfaces facing outward. The fastener material fits within a longitudinal groove in the mold and the backing material overlaps the groove. The invention comprises an improved apparatus including a backing strip that is wider than the fastener strip and provides exposed strips on both sides of the fastener strip.

  • Patent number: 4672721
Abstract: Strip fastener material comprising a first flexible strip of material having a surface of loose-weave fiber wool, the first strip of material being configured as a narrow strip having a plurality of identical, spaced first projections extending sidewards in one direction therefrom; and, a second flexible strip of material having a surface of resiliently flexible hooks adapated to releasably mate with the wool, the second strip of material being configured as a narrow strip having a plurality of identical, spaced second projections extending sidewards in one direction therefrom, the first projections and the second projections being identical in shape. The material is made by cutting a serpentine path longitudinally through the strips of material to form, in each case, two new strips of material configured as a narrow strip having a plurality of identical spaced projections extending sidewards in one direction therefrom.

  • Patent number: 4662037
Abstract: An apparatus for ultrasonically providing selvedge on separable fasteners of the hook and loop-type. Portions of the separable fastener member are ultrasonically softened or melted and pressed toward the surface of the base member so as to be combined, or in some instances, consolidated therewith. The portions may be given a textured appearance by use of a textured anvil having either a simulated selvedge surface or even a trademark or logo impressed, machined or etched thereon. The tape may be provided with several selvedge portions and then slit medially of the portions to provide at least two separable fasteners of smaller width from a separable fastener of wider width.

  • Patent number: 4654246
Abstract: A self-engaging separable fastener is disclosed which comprises a base member of woven separable fastener material having at least two adjacent mating fastener sections. At least one section is defined by a plurality of loops upstanding from the base member, and the other section is defined by a plurality of hooks upstanding from the base member. The loops are formed of respective generally parallel rows of multifilament yarns interwoven into their respective base section so as to repeat the same loop direction and construction every predetermined number of picks and the hooks are cut from respective generally parallel rows of loops of monofilament yarns interwoven into their respective base section so as to repeat their loop direction and construction every predetermined number of picks, which latter number of picks is greater than the number of picks in which the direction of the multifilament loops is repeated.

  • Patent number: 4628709
Abstract: A knitted material is disclosed having on one side a multiplicity of upstanding hook-like engaging elements suitable for repeated face-to-face engagement and disengagement with a material having a multiplicity of upstanding pile loop-like mating engagement elements. The material has a base knitted fabric and a plurality of upstanding monofilamentary members interknitted into the base fabric, with a hook-like engaging element positioned at the upper end of each upstanding member. The engaging element extends transversely of the upstanding member and is configured in cross section to have at least one end generally arcuate in shape and the opposite end tapered. The tapered end has greater flexibility than the arcuate end, and the fastener fabric is engageable in face-to-face relation with a mating loop-type fastener fabric and separated by forces normal to the interfacial plane of engagement.
