Publication number: 20140266200Abstract: A method of assessing a spatial frequency distribution within a sample comprising subjecting the sample to magnetic resonance excitation, receiving an echo signal from the sample while the sample is subjected to a magnetic field gradient, applying an invertible linear transform to the echo signal, identifying a region of interest in the transformed echo signal and deriving a corresponding window function, applying the window function (in the signal or transform domain) to the echo signal to remove echo signal coming from regions of the sample outside of the region of interest, and analyzing the one dimensional spatial frequency content in the windowed echo signal in order to access a one dimensional spatial frequency distribution within the region of interest within the sample without creating an image.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 3, 2014Publication date: September 18, 2014Applicant: ACUITAS MEDICAL LIMITEDInventors: David R. Publication number: 20140205541Abstract: The disclosed invention is a method for detecting indications of the presence of liver disease and other fibrotic diseases using a magnetic-resonance based technique for measuring fine tissue and bone textures. Specifically, the invention focuses on adaptations to this prior art to facilitate assessment of the presence and severity of liver disease, lung disease, and other fibrotic disease by measuring spatial wavelengths characteristic of the specific disease process across an areal cross-section through an organ. The results may be presented using a mapping technique. In this way, the resolution of MR is extended further than possible with current MR imaging, so as to be able to measure the fine scale structures and tissue changes that are known to be characteristic of the degenerative processes involved in the development of these diseases.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 25, 2014Publication date: July 24, 2014Applicant: Acuitas Medical LimitedInventors: Timothy W. Patent number: 8462346Abstract: A method for representing the structural information in a biological or physical sample is disclosed. In this method, a time-frequency representation of the spatial distribution within a sample is transformed into a color representation of the data. Furthermore, due to the directional sensitivity of the method for gathering the data, information about the structural anisotropy of the sample can also be encoded from the data. The application of this method to one or more regions within the sample enables a map to be generated which clearly illustrates quantitative measures of the structures present.Type: GrantFiled: March 7, 2011Date of Patent: June 11, 2013Assignee: Acuitas Medical LimitedInventors: Lance W. Farr, Timothy W. James, Jonathan N. Stearn

Patent number: 7932720Abstract: The disclosed innovation is a method for acquiring spatial frequency spectra from specific locations in a 3D sample using modifications of the current MRI techniques for localized NMR spectroscopy. The innovation in its simplest abstraction is to add the use of a read out gradient to the current NMR spectroscopy pulse sequences and record the resultant echo. These techniques generate spectra from a selected region or generate an image of the results over a region of the sample. These methods can be applied to analyzing the structure of trabecular bone as well as for analyzing or diagnosing disease in cases where there is a difference in the spatial frequency power spectrum due to physiologic or disease processes. Various embodiments are disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: November 27, 2006Date of Patent: April 26, 2011Assignee: Acuitas Medical LimitedInventors: Timothy W. James, David Chase
