Abstract: A composition is provided that includes a carbonaceous feed material to be combusted to generate an off-gas and an identifier. The identifier is associated with a predetermined composition, characteristic or property of the feed material or the off-gas.

Abstract: A waste gas is contacted with a mercury removal agent to remove mercury and a flue gas conditioning agent to alter a resistivity and/or cohesivity of particulates. The flue gas conditioning agent can be substantially free of SO3 and/or comprise more than about 25 wt. % SO3, and/or the mercury removal agent can be substantially unaffected by the flue gas conditioning agent. An amount of mercury removed from the waste gas in the presence of the flue gas conditioning agent can be the same or more than that removed from the waste gas in the absence of the flue gas conditioning agent. An amount of the acid gas removed, by an acid gas removal agent, from the waste gas in the presence of the flue gas conditioning agent can be the same or more than that removed from the waste gas in the absence of the flue gas conditioning agent.

Abstract: A contaminated gas stream can be passed through an in-line mixing device, positioned in a duct containing the contaminated gas stream, to form a turbulent contaminated gas stream. One or more of the following is true: (a) a width of the in-line mixing device is no more than about 75% of a width of the duct at the position of the in-line mixing device; (b) a height of the in-line mixing device is no more than about 75% of a height of the duct at the position of the in-line mixing device; and (c) a cross-sectional area of the mixing device normal to a direction of gas flow is no more than about 75% of a cross-sectional area of the duct at the position of the in-line mixing device. An additive can be introduced into the contaminated gas stream to cause the removal of the contaminant by a particulate control device.

Abstract: The present disclose is directed to a method for controlling iodine levels in wet scrubbers, and, in particular, recirculating wet scrubbers by removing the iodine from the scrubbing solution, such as by using ion exchange, absorption, adsorption, precipitation, filtration, solvent extraction, ion pair extraction, and an aqueous two-phase extraction.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to additives for coal-fired furnaces, particularly furnaces using a layer of slag to capture coal particles for combustion. The additive(s) include iron, mineralizer(s), handling aid(s), flow aid(s), and/or abrasive material(s). The iron and mineralizers can lower the melting temperature of ash in low-iron, high alkali coals, leading to improved furnace performance.
