  • Patent number: 4336755
Abstract: The present invention is a device for a multicolor printing machine which permits continuous and precise axial setting of a form cylinder to obtain quality register printing during the printing operation of the machine. After setting of the form cylinder, it is also possible to eliminate clearance between the elements of the setting mechanism. The control elements are advantageously arranged on one side of the machine in such a manner as to be easily accessible for the operator. The device enables the elimination of clearance between the elements necessary for the axial setting by means of securing elements and the coupling of the drive gear with the form cylinder by means of a carrier in which the radial clearance has been eliminated and as a result, the shifting of the drive gear is made possible without introduction of radial clearance.

  • Patent number: 4336930
Abstract: The invention relates to a sheet transfer device, for offset printing machines which print on one side of the sheet or on both sides of the sheet of paper, having a means for adjustment to accommodate sheets of different sizes, achieving thereby an accurate register printing. The feature of the device according to the invention is a reset wheel of the sheet transfer drum which is adjustably mounted on a centering flange, on rollers rotatably mounted on eccentric pins mounted in the centering flange. The centering flange has rotatably mounted eccentrics, which bear on carrying projections of the transfer drum body, while the transfer drum reset wheel is fastened to the flange. The clearance between the reset wheel and the flange centering diameter is adjusted by eccentric pins, while at the same time the reset wheel is centered so that its gearing is precisely centered with the transfer drum axis. The clearance of the toothing of the reset wheel is taken up by take-up segments.

  • Patent number: 4331879
Abstract: The invention is a photoelectric sensing device, in the body of which is rotatably mounted a photoelectric sensing element, the sight opening of which is arranged in a plane with the front stops and bears on the vertical front plane of the pile of paper sheets. The body of the photoelectric sensing device can be mounted on the carrier rod of the front stops. The sensing device provides an advantage in that the device works with daylight and also with artificial light so that a special source of light is not necessary for operation of the sensing device. As a result of arranging the photoelectric sensing element in the plane of the front or lateral stops, the sight opening glass is continually wiped by falling paper sheets and is not obscured by dust. The photoelectric sensing device is simple to manufacture and is reliable.

  • Patent number: 4324180
Abstract: The invention relates to a drive device, particularly for offset printing machines, in which a control lever is mounted on a pin fixed in the side wall of the printing machine and is connected by means of an adjustable bar to a swing fork, in which a variable speed gear box is mounted, joined by means of a drive belt to a common pulley, which is linked intermediate of a V-belt to a free part of an electromagnetic clutch which is electromagnetically connected with the stationary part of said clutch. The stationary part of the clutch is mounted on a worm gear which engages a worm joined with an electric motor for the tip - motion of the printing cylinders. The device provides the advantage, that the control of the variable speed gear box ratio is accomplished by a separate mechanism and the impulses for increasing or decreasing the number of revolutions of the printing machine is effected electrically.

  • Patent number: 4241619
Abstract: A technique for correcting backlash in gears utilized in printing machines. The backlash is corrected by means of toothed segments, i.e. sections of a gear, with each segment having gear teeth of varying width, with the teeth at the center of the segment having greatest width and the width of successive teeth decreasing by 0.005 to 0.6 mm to minimum values at both ends of the segment. Each segment is positioned so that the gear teeth of proper diameter to reduce backlash are disposed next to the teeth of the gear on which the segment is mounted.

  • Patent number: 4195569
Abstract: An arrangement for adjusting the rotational phase angle of the form cylinder of a printing machine to obtain proper image registration, for example for multicolor printing operations. Adjustment is accomplished by a toothed ring which can be rotationally adjusted and which is slidably engaged with a connecting gear affixed to a drive gear. A control shaft may be rotated to axially move the drive gear with respect to the toothed ring, and an expandable radial bearing is coupled between the control shaft and the drive gear.
