Patent number: 10363180Abstract: A support assembly includes a fixable portion and a rotatable portion. The fixable portion is adapted to be fixedly mounted to a wheelchair and includes a shaft having a keyway formed therein that is supported by one or more mounts. The rotatable portion is received on the shaft and is in selective locked engagement therewith. The rotatable portion includes a bracket body with an opening into which the shaft of the fixable portion is received and a key member providing a key. The key member is supported by the bracket body and is movable in linear translation between an engaged position in which the key is engaged with the keyway to lock a rotational orientation of the bracket body relative to the shaft and a disengaged position in which the key is disengaged from the keyway permitting the rotatable portion to rotate relative to the fixable portion.Type: GrantFiled: July 21, 2016Date of Patent: July 30, 2019Assignee: Adaptive Engineering Lab, Inc.Inventors: Ronald S. Patent number: 9717637Abstract: A lateral support assembly for attachment to a wheelchair includes a mounting portion for attachment to the wheelchair, a pad support portion for attachment to a pad, and a link sub-assembly including one or more links that connect the mounting portion to the pad support portion. The mounting portion includes an attachment part, a hinged part, and a sliding part. The attachment part is adapted to be affixed to the wheelchair and the hinged part is connected to the attachment part and is selectively pivotable about a first rotational axis. The pad support portion includes a pad bracket coupled to a secondary housing in which the pad bracket is selectively pivotable about a second rotational axis. The sliding part is connected to the hinged part and is selectively extendable forward.Type: GrantFiled: October 8, 2014Date of Patent: August 1, 2017Assignee: Adaptive Engineering Lab, Inc.Inventor: Ronald S. Patent number: 8573549Abstract: A bracket, for attaching a support to a wheelchair frame, includes a coupling with a first body, a second body, and a link. The first body has a first bore with a clamp there around and has one connector for connection to the support or the wheelchair frame. The second body has a section with a second bore and which is received within the first bore and releasably engaged by the clamp. The second body has a second connector for connection to the other one of the support and the wheelchair frame. Releasing the clamp allows the first and second bodies to be separated so that the support can be moved with respect to the wheelchair frame, while the link, captured in the first and second bores, prevents total separation of the bodies. A key and keyway limit assembly of the first and second bodies in only one orientation.Type: GrantFiled: November 8, 2011Date of Patent: November 5, 2013Assignee: Adaptive Engineering Lab, Inc.Inventor: Erik B. Patent number: 8317271Abstract: A support vest, for limiting movement of a person in a chair, has a body that includes a central section adapted to fit against an anterior portion of the trunk of the person. A pair of shoulder straps project upward from the central section to fit against the person's shoulders. The body is formed by a resilient perforated core pad and layers a mesh fabric that abut the major surfaces of the core pad. A outer cover abuts one of the second layer of a mesh fabric layers and is formed by a resilient perforated nucleus pad encased is a breathable fabric. This layered body is breathable and has materials that wick perspiration away from the person.Type: GrantFiled: May 12, 2011Date of Patent: November 27, 2012Assignee: Adaptive Engineering Lab, Inc.Inventor: Alexis Basabe Kopca

Patent number: 6991292Abstract: A seat is pivotally connected to a frame of a wheelchair and is connected by one or more resilient supports. Each support includes a housing attached to either the seat or the frame and a bracket arrangement attached to the other of those wheelchair components. A spring biases the bracket arrangement with respect to the housing and an adjuster enables the force of the spring to be varied to alter resiliency of the support.Type: GrantFiled: May 27, 2004Date of Patent: January 31, 2006Assignee: Adaptive Engineering Lab, Inc.Inventor: Jon-Michael Kasten

Patent number: 6454485Abstract: A bi-directional retainer for removably securing accessories such as a seat or a back rest to a wheelchair frame. The retainer includes a base mountable on a frame member and a slide mounted on the base for movement between two spaced operating positions. It also includes a spring disposed between the slide and the base providing an over the center action which urges the slide to remain in a selected operating position.Type: GrantFiled: March 10, 1999Date of Patent: September 24, 2002Assignee: Adaptive Engineering Lab, Inc.Inventors: Malin E.
