  • Patent number: 6554652
Abstract: A jack and chassis assembly includes a baluns interface connected directly to the in/out wire wrap pins on the jacks. This helps to convert 75 ohm coaxial signals to 120 ohm twisted pair interface signals for equipment connections. The jack and chassis assembly includes at least one jack, a chassis defining a first frame holding the jack, a circuit board mounted to the first frame and in electrical contact with the jack, and a balun in electrical contact with the jack. Methods for assembling a jack and chassis assembly include mounting a jack onto a frame, providing a second frame holding a balun, and connecting the jack to the balun. A chassis assembly includes a first frame, and a second frame, with the first frame being mounted within the second frame.

  • Patent number: 6556763
Abstract: A fiber optic telecommunications frame is provided including panels having front and rear termination locations, the panels positioned on left and right sides of the frame. The frame includes vertical access for the rear cables. The frame further includes left and right vertical cable guides for the front patch cables. The frame further includes cable storage spools for the patch cables. The frame includes a horizontal passage linking the left and right panels and the cable guides. A lower portion of the frame defines splice tray holders and a central passage from the splice tray holders to the rear sides of the left and right panels. From a front of each panel, access to a rear of the panel is provided by the hinged panels. Alternatively, the panels can form connector modules with front termination locations and rear connection locations for connecting to the rear cables. The modules can house couplers, such as splitters, combiners, and wave division multiplexers.

  • Publication number: 20030076568
Abstract: An improved optical frequency stabilization unit utilizes the frequency-dependent phase retardation of a birefringent element as a frequency reference. A light frequency stabilization unit includes a birefringent element having a longitudinal axis, the optic axis of the birefringent element is oriented to retard the phase of polarized light propagating through the element parallel to the longitudinal axis. The phase is retarded by an amount that is proportional to the frequency of the polarized light. A polarizer transmits a portion of the phase-retarded light. The magnitude of the transmitted portion is determined by the phase retardation amount. A first optical detector is disposed to detect the transmitted portion of light and to generate a first signal in response to the transmitted portion detected.

  • Patent number: 6549087
Abstract: Avariable equalizer is described. The variable equalizer provides for independent control of a number of breakpoints in the frequency response of the equalizer so as to allow the equalizer to be readily tuned to compensate for the tilt of coaxial cables over a wide range of characteristic attenuation. In one embodiment, the variable equalizer includes a two port bridge “T” network with variable top and bottom branches that are independently and selectively adjusted to create a desired frequency response. For example, in one embodiment, the top branches include a number of variable RC networks and the bottom branches include a number of variable LR networks. In some embodiments, PEN diodes provide the variable resistance in these LR and RC networks.

  • Patent number: 6549693
Abstract: A fiber optic switch package and method of assembling the same with improved protection of the fibers and simple assembly. The package redirects or bends optical fibers of a 2×2 or 1×2 MEMS optical switch in the package so that instead of exiting the package from four ends, the fibers exit the package from two ends. By exiting the package from two ends, real estate on a printed circuit board is conserved and packages can be located closer to other packages on a printed circuit board.
