Abstract: Systems and methods for monitoring a user's viewing progress of media in a series are provided. The user may setup a media profile containing a list of program series to be monitored. The interactive media monitoring application may track the user's viewing progress of programs in the program series on the user equipment and update the user's media profile. The user may request and watch programs in the series at the user's leisure while peripheral media content may be filtered to be consistent with the user's viewing progress in the series.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described for improved sharing of an experience between users. A first image captured using a first user device is received by control circuitry. A second image captured using a second user device is received by the control circuitry. Control circuitry determines a first set of elements of the first image. Control circuitry determines a second set of elements of the second image. Control circuitry determines whether at least one element of the first set of elements corresponds to at least one element of the second set of elements. Control circuitry determines that a transient element is present in the first set of elements and is not present in the second set of elements. Control circuitry generates for display the transient element on the second user device.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for inserting dialogue into query responses by generating and using dialogue metadata in conjunction with response templates. Metadata for each portion of dialogue of a plurality of portions of dialogue from a number of content items is stored, including information regarding the source content item, a transcript of the dialogue, and grammatical information. Upon receiving a query related to a content item, a type of response is first determined. Based on the type of response, and using the dialogue metadata, a portion of dialogue is identified for insertion into the response. The identified portion of dialogue is retrieved and inserted at an appropriate position within the response. The response is then generated for output.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described to dynamically generate metadata for a live media stream. The system determines that a first user on a social media network has started a live media stream. In response, the system identifies a topic of the live media stream based on a frame of the live media stream and identifies another person featured in the frame of the live media stream based on social connections of the first user in the social media network. The system then generates a title for the live media stream based on the identified topic and the identified person, and transmits a notification to a second user that the first user is streaming live, where the notification includes the generated title.

Abstract: Systems and methods for generating a playlist of audio content for a vehicle are disclosed. An audio input is received at a vehicle entertainment system of the vehicle while an audio content item is currently played by the vehicle entertainment system. The audio input includes an audio command trigger and an audio playlist command. In response to detecting the audio command trigger in the audio input, the audio input is parsed to determine the audio playlist command. A metadata associated with the audio content item is determined. In response to determining the audio playlist command, the audio content item is caused to be added to an audio content playlist of a third-party service based on the metadata of the audio content item.

Abstract: Systems and methods for handling multilingual queries are provided. One example method includes receiving, at a computing device, an input, wherein the input comprises a multi-lingual query comprising at least a first source language and a second source language. The multi-lingual query is translated, word for word, into a destination language to produce a monolingual query, with the word order of the multilingual query and the word order of the monolingual query being the same. The monolingual query is processed using natural language processing to map the mono-lingual query to a natural language query in the destination language.

Abstract: Systems and methods for generating audible pronunciation of a closed captioning word in a content item. For example, a system generates for output on a first device a content item comprising dialogue. The system generates for display on the first device a closed captioning word corresponding to the dialogue where the closed captioning word is selectable via a user interface of the first device. The system receives a selection of the closed captioning word via the user interface of the first device. In response to receiving the selection of the closed captioning word, the system generates for playback on the first device at least a portion of the dialogue corresponding to the selected closed captioning word.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described for modifying a phonetic search index based on a use frequency associated with phonetic representations of text terms included in metadata of a media item. A first phonetic representation of a text term of the metadata, pronounced as a word, may be generated. A second phonetic representation of the text term may be generated by concatenating a phonetic representation of each letter in the text term. A database may be queried to determine use frequencies of the first and second phonetic representations, one of which may be selected based on a comparison of the use frequencies. A phonetic search index may be modified by including an entry for the selected phonetic representation. A voice query related to the media item may be received, and a reply to the voice query may be generated for output by performing a lookup in the modified phonetic search index.

Abstract: Systems and methods are presented for adaptive biometric authentication. According to one example method, a failure of a first type of biometric authentication is detected. In response to detecting the failure of the first type of biometric authentication, an alternative type of authentication is completed. In response to completing the alternative type of authentication, a biometric characteristic of a biometric signature is selectively modified in a stored user profile for processing a subsequent attempt of the first type of biometric authentication.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described to a database comprising multiple database records, where each database record comprises an attribute of a content item consumed by a user and an indication of a user device used by the user to consume the content item, and is associated with an indication of whether a content provider should be granted access to the respective database record. An option to modify whether or not the content provider should be granted access to the respective database record is provided for each database record of the database records, and each database record that is associated with an indication that the content provider should be granted access is transmitted to the content provider, to enable the content provider to generate and transmit a content recommendation based on at least one of the database records transmitted to the content provider.

Abstract: Systems and methods for modifying runtimes of media assets are disclosed. A first input is received indicating a request to modify a current runtime of a media asset being generated for display on a media device. The media asset includes segments. A second input is received and based on the second input, a shortened version of the media asset having a shortened runtime is generated. One or more segments of the media asset are removed from the media asset to generate the shortened version and the shortened version of the media asset is generated for display on the media device.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described for operating a light source to vary the intensity of light output by the light source by alternating between a first intensity and a second intensity higher than the first intensity according to a clock signal, wherein for the first set of time periods the light source outputs light of the first intensity and for the second set of time periods the light source outputs light of the second intensity, and operating a window shutter system to vary the transparency of the window by alternating between a first transparency and a second transparency lower than the first transparency according to the clock signal, wherein for a first set of time periods the window has the first transparency, and for the second set of time periods the window has the second transparency.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for recommending content based on a mood score associated with a user profile. The system accesses the viewing history of the user profile to determine media assets consumed and the mood score associated with each of the consumed media assets of the plurality of media assets. A cumulative mood score is calculated based at least in part to determine if the total score is below a mood threshold. Based on the cumulative mood score being lower than the mood threshold, the system generates for presentation, on the consumer device, one or more media assets with a positive mood score.

Abstract: Systems and methods for improved monitoring of content distribution are described herein. In some embodiments, control circuitry may transmit a video stream to a node, and compare a fingerprint of a first video frame transmitted from the node to reference fingerprints in database in order to determine a time offset between a transmission time of content to the node, and a transmission time of the content from the node. The control circuitry may then monitor a transmission from the node by transmitting a request, to the node, to generate a second fingerprint at a predetermined transmission time, the predetermined transmission time being a second transmission time of a second video frame to the node adjusted based on the time offset. In some embodiments, the control circuitry may also generate alerts based on determining that a node failed to properly retransmit content.

Abstract: Systems and methods are presented for detecting users within a range of a media device. A detection region may be defined that is within the range of the media device and smaller than the range. The detection region may be stored. It may be determined whether a user is within the detection region. The media device may be activated and settings associated with the user may be applied when a user is within the detection region. In some embodiments, settings associated with a user may be compared to provided media content when the user is within the detection region. The content may change when the settings conflict with the media content. Reminders may be provided to or directed to a plurality of users within the range of the media device.

Abstract: Systems and associated methods are described for providing content recommendations. The system selects a first plurality of subsets of content categories, each subset of content categories comprising a first number of content categories. The subsets are assigned reward scores based on content popularity and duplication. The subset are then iteratively modified to increase the rewards scores. If the reward scores are still low, the process is repeated by selecting a second plurality of subsets of content categories, each subset of content categories comprising a second number of content categories, different from first number.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for efficiently “catching-up” a user that is interested in a media asset when that user has missed a portion of the media asset while consuming the media asset together with other people. The system may detect that multiple people are consuming a media asset and may determine, based on a respective profile of each person, whether that person is interested in the media asset. When the system detects that the user is disregarding the media asset, the missed portion of the media asset is stored if the user is interested in the media asset, and is not stored if the user is not interested in the media asset.

Abstract: Systems and methods for simultaneously being present in multiple extended reality (XR) apps running on the same XR device are disclosed. The methods concurrently run multiple XR apps on the user's XR device and use an avatar to represent the user's presence in each app. The methods determine whether the user is actively present in a first app or a second app. When the user is not actively present in a first app, activity in the first app is monitored, the avatar is configured to provide auto-responses based on AI, ML, or preprogrammed responses for relevant queries to simulate the user's presence. Notifications and summary of the activities in the first app are provided to the user while they are actively present in the second app. Instead of rendering the first app, back-end simulations of the activities in the first app are processed and made available when rendering is resumed.

Abstract: Methods and systems are disclosed herein for a media guidance application that distributes media guidance application operations between multiple devices based on one or more criteria associated with those devices. For example, the media guidance application may determine the plurality of operations performed by a target device and distribute the plurality of operations among devices near that target device.

Abstract: A vocabulary level of a user in a language to be learned is identified. During playback of a media asset on a first device, subtitles in the language are extracted for at least a portion of the media asset. The extracted subtitles may contain a single word, or a plurality of words in the language in question. Based on the vocabulary level, a subset of words from the extracted subtitles are predicted to be new to the user. The predicted new words are then generated for display on a second device associated with the user, along with an explanation of each word of the subset of words.
