Patent number: 8481635Abstract: A hot melt adhesive comprises an ethylene ?-olefin copolymer, an acid anhydride modified polyolefin and a hydrogenated tackifying resin. The hot melt adhesive has excellent viscoelastic properties and can be used in a variety of applications. In one application, attaching an elastic band to a flexible film, the adhesive has excellent viscosity and, in a finished absorbent article, a minimal creep characteristic. Also disclosed is a disposable article using the adhesive to adhere adjacent surfaces within the disposable article including an elastic band to a polyolefin backing film, for example, in a diaper, incontinent article or other such structure.Type: GrantFiled: November 8, 2007Date of Patent: July 9, 2013Assignee: Adherent Laboratories, Inc.Inventors: Thomas H. Quinn, William L. Bunnelle

Publication number: 20120213956Abstract: Described herein are fugitive hot melt adhesive compositions having a substantial weight percent of renewable plant-based content. The adhesive compositions impart high initial adhesive bond strength between an object and a substrate quickly after application in the molten state, wherein the adhesive bond strength is spontaneously substantially reduced to a very low or near zero level after a short time, for example between about 1 minute and 60 minutes after application. Methods of use and articles formed using the compositions are also described.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 23, 2011Publication date: August 23, 2012Applicant: Adherent Laboratories, Inc.Inventors: William L. Bunnelle, Keith Knutson, Thomas H. Quinn

Patent number: 8048054Abstract: The invention relates to a disposable article and method relating to attachment tabs on a disposable article. The disposable article typically comprises a non-woven layer, an absorbent layer, and an outer film-wrapping layer associated with an attachment tab. The tabs are adhered to the polymer film and can be used to close the absorbent garment when in use. The invention also relates to a method of attaching the tabs to the polymer film using an adhesive having improved adhesive properties.Type: GrantFiled: October 17, 2006Date of Patent: November 1, 2011Assignee: Adherent Laboratories, Inc.Inventor: William L. Bunnelle

Patent number: 7910794Abstract: A novel spray-on adhesive composition is made from a high melt index polymer and a rosin ester tackifier that interact to produce a composition that can form a low VOC, non-tacky, hot melt adhesive material that can be used in disposable article manufacture. The adhesive provides surprisingly high initial adhesion. Additionally, the adhesive is thermally stable at hot melt application conditions, low in cost, easily applied, and produces high quality disposable articles.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 2007Date of Patent: March 22, 2011Assignee: Adherent Laboratories, Inc.Inventors: Thomas H. Patent number: 7220800Abstract: A contact lens blocking composition with desirable melt properties can comprise a water soluble polymer such as a polyalkylpolyimine combined with an absorbent disintegrant or with a filler such as a highly soluble salt composition or both. The blocking composition can be readily removed from a shaped contact lens after machining and from the mandrel or other tool used in shaping the lens. The blocking composition is readily removed using an aqueous wash, aqueous washing solutions or ultrasonic cleaning procedures.Type: GrantFiled: January 26, 2005Date of Patent: May 22, 2007Assignee: Adherent Laboratories, Inc.Inventors: William L. Bunnelle, Robert M. Hume, III
