  • Patent number: 7363360
Abstract: An element management system (EMS) for monitoring elements of a communication network utilizes a plurality of clients, a plurality of network elements, and an element management system (EMS). The clients and the network elements are interfaced with the EMS. The EMS is configured to track which of the network elements are of interest to the clients and to automatically monitor the network elements based on which of the network elements are determined, by the EMS, to be of interest to the clients. The EMS is further configured to provide the clients with information indicative of the monitored elements. Furthermore, the EMS may be configured to store graphical user interface (GUI) code that can be utilized to provide a GUI for monitoring and/or changing a network element. The EMS may provide the GUI code to the clients on demand and may enable a user to update the GUI code stored at the EMS.

  • Patent number: 7103828
Abstract: A forward error correction system comprises a forward error correction (FEC) manager and a transmitter. The FEC manager is configured to receive a data stream and to define a plurality of FEC code words based on the data stream. Each of the FEC code words comprises a data portion and a checksum portion that may be used to recover at least one character of the data portion. The FEC manager is configured to interleave characters of the FEC code words such that the FEC code words are transmitted, by the transmitter, to a remote receiver in an interleaved fashion. The FEC manager is configured to provide characters from each of the FEC code words to the transmitter before a plurality of characters to be assigned to each of the FEC code words has been received by the FEC manager.

  • Patent number: 6940830
Abstract: The present invention relates to an improved method and apparatus for echo cancellation in a communication system utilizing a bidirectional transmission medium. The invention significantly reduces computational overhead associated with echo cancellation by using sub-Nyquist sampling in the echo path. In particular, the invention relates to a method and apparatus for echo cancellation in a communication system utilizing different signaling or baud rates in the transmit and receive directions, whereby the computational overhead of the echo cancellation is significantly reduced as compared to traditional methods. In a preferred embodiment herein, the present invention reduces by one-half the computational overhead associated with echo cancellation in a data communications system utilizing symmetrical information rates at asymmetrical signal rates.
