  • Patent number: 11138257
Abstract: Object search techniques for digital images are described. In the techniques described herein, semantic features are extracted on a per-object basis form a digital image. This supports location of objects within digital images and is not limited to semantic features of an entirety of the digital image as involved in conventional image similarity search techniques. This may be combined with indications a location of the object globally with respect to the digital image through use of a global segmentation mask, use of a local segmentation mask to capture post and characteristics of the object itself, and so on.

  • Patent number: 11138989
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide systems, methods, and computer storage media for sound quality prediction and real-time feedback about sound quality, such as room acoustics quality and background noise. Audio data can be sampled from a live sound source and stored in an audio buffer. The audio data in the buffer is analyzed to calculate a stream of values of one or more sound quality measures, such as speech transmission index and signal-to-noise ratio. Speech transmission index can be calculated using a convolution neural network configured to predict speech transmission index from reverberant speech. The stream of values can be used to provide real-time feedback about sound quality of the audio data. For example, a visual indicator on a graphical user interface can be updated based on consistency of the values over time. The real-time feedback about sound quality can help users optimize their recording setup.

  • Patent number: 11138693
Abstract: Techniques of adjusting the salience of an image include generating values of photographic development parameters for a foreground and background of an image to adjust the salience of the image in the foreground. These parameters are global in nature over the image rather than local. Moreover, the optimization of the salience over such sets of global parameters is provided through two sets of these parameters by an encoder: one set corresponding to the foreground, in which the salience is to be either increased or decreased, and the other set corresponding to the background. Once the set of development parameters corresponding to the foreground region and the set of development parameters corresponding to the background region have been determined, a decoder generates an adjusted image with an increased salience based on these sets of development parameters.

  • Publication number: 20210304283
Abstract: A trend setting score that identifies a degree of trend setting exhibited by a user is generated for each of multiple users. This degree of trend setting exhibited by the user is an indication of how well the user identifies trends for items (e.g., consumes items) prior to the items becoming popular. The item consumption of users with high trend setting scores is then used to identify items that are expected to become popular after a lag in time. For a given user, another user with a high trend setting score (also referred to as a trendsetter) and having a high affinity with (e.g., similar item consumption behavior or characteristics) the given user is identified. Recommendations are provided to the given user based on items consumed by the trendsetter prior to the items becoming popular.

  • Publication number: 20210303835
Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for generating a vector image from a raster image, where the raster image is, for instance, a photographed or scanned version of a hand-drawn sketch. While drawing a sketch, an artist may perform multiple strokes to draw a line, and the resultant raster image may have adjacent or partially overlapping salient and non-salient lines, where the salient lines are representative of the artist's intent, and the non-salient (or auxiliary) lines are formed due to the redundant strokes or otherwise as artefacts of the creation process. The raster image may also include other auxiliary features, such as blemishes, non-white background (e.g., reflecting the canvas on which the hand-sketch was made), and/or uneven lighting. In an example, the vector image is generated to include the salient lines, but not the non-salient lines or other auxiliary features. Thus, the generated vector image is a cleaner version of the raster image.

  • Publication number: 20210303779
Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for sharing user markings between digital documents and corresponding physically printed documents. The sharing is facilitated using an Augmented Reality (AR) device, such as a smartphone or a tablet. The device streams images of a page of a book on a display. The device accesses a corresponding digital document that is a digital version of content printed on the book. In an example, the digital document has a digital user marking, e.g., a comment associated with a paragraph of the digital document, wherein a corresponding paragraph of the physical book lacks any such comment. When the device streams the images of the page of the book on the display, the device appends the digital comment on the paragraph of the page of the book within the image stream. Thus, the user can view the digital comment in the AR environment, while reading the physical book.

  • Publication number: 20210295525
Abstract: In implementations of object boundary generation, a computing device implements a boundary system to receive a mask defining a contour of an object depicted in a digital image, the mask having a lower resolution than the digital image. The boundary system maps a curve to the contour of the object and extracts strips of pixels from the digital image which are normal to points of the curve. A sample of the digital image is generated using the extracted strips of pixels which is input to a machine learning model. The machine learning model outputs a representation of a boundary of the object by processing the sample of the digital image.

  • Publication number: 20210297708
Abstract: Residual vectors are compressed in a lossless compression scheme suitable for cloud DVR video content applications. Thus, a cloud DVR service provider can take many copies of the same file stored in the cloud and save storage space by compressing those copies while still maintaining their status as distinct copies, one per user. Vector quantization is used for compressing already-compressed video streams (e.g., MPEG streams). As vector quantization is a lossy compression scheme, the residual vector has to be stored to regenerate the original video stream at the decoding (playback) node. Entropy coding schemes like Arithmetic or Huffman coding can be used to compress the residual vectors. Additional strategies can be implemented to further optimize this residual compression. In some embodiments, the techniques operate to provide a 25-50% improvement in compression. Storage space is thus more efficiently used and video transmission may be faster in some cases.
