Abstract: A multi-cell, basket-type carrier is provided with a combination mechanical interlock and an alignment means comprising a tongue portion which during a sequence of operations passes through a slot formed in a pair of riser panels and cooperates therewith so that the tongue portion is properly positioned in a superposed and aligned relationship with a handle portion and a portion of the riser panels is positioned between the tongue portion and the handle portion to form a mechanical interlock between the handle portion and the rest of the multi-cell, basket-type carrier.
Abstract: A system for the transfer of an individual folded carton from a supply of folded cartons to a conveyor for further processing using a vacuum unit that is reciprocated over an arcuate path and wherein vacuum is applied to the vacuum unit immediately prior to its contact with a first one of a supply of folded cartons so as to secure the first one to the vacuum unit and the vacuum is discontinued from the vacuum unit after the vacuum unit and the first one of the folded cartons have moved away from the supply of folded cartons through a distance less than about three inches.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the continuous printing of cylindrical containers which includes a method and apparatus for detecting malfunctions in a skip-print assembly thereof and for responding to detected malfunctions.
Abstract: A milk carton blank formable into a liquid tight parallelepiped shaped milk carton. The milk carton blank comprises a generally rectangular shape having a plurality of panel portions formed by a gridwork of longitudinal and transverse fold lines. Cutout portions in oppositely positioned top and bottom panel portions allow the top and bottom panel portions to be folded and sealed with a relatively small number of operations. A perforated tab portion is described which may be removed from a tongue portion of the milk carton to provide a pouring spout. Additional folding lines are described which allow a portion of a top and lateral side panel of the milk carton to be thrust outwardly to facilitate pouring of liquid therefrom.
Abstract: An epoxy mixing and dispensing apparatus for continuously mixing epoxy and dispensing it to a surface to be coated including: a movable carriage; a first dump bucket assembly mounted at a first end portion of said carriage for rotating and dumping a first bucket; a second dump bucket assembly mounted at a second end of said carriage for rotating and dumping a second bucket; an epoxy mixing assembly having a power driven epoxy mixer for mixing epoxy ingredients in said buckets; mixer placement and support apparatus for facilitating movement of said mixer between said buckets and for supporting said mixer in various operation positions; and controls for independently controlling first and second power driven bucket rotation devices and said power driven epoxy mixer.

Abstract: A carton having interconnected top, bottom and side walls and end closure panels is provided with a plurality of slits and fold lines in at least one of the interconnected walls so that portions of the one wall may be pushed inwardly into the carton to form handle portions facing either of the ends of the carton and is provided with J-cut portions and other slits to inhibit tearing or to direct any tearing in a desired direction.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for high speed drying of the interior surfaces of a plurality of plastic bottles without causing heat deterioration of the bottles. Bottles to be dried are heated through application of a heated liquid to the exterior surface thereof while a gas jet is simultaneously directed into the bottle interior. Method and apparatus for continuously moving and rotating the bottles during the drying process is also described.
Abstract: A system for use in determining the torque required to loosen a threaded cap on a container, which container is held in a fixed position while a constant downward force is being placed on the threaded cap, by applying a gradually increasing electrical force to an electric motor tending to turn the electric motor so as to apply a torque on the threaded cap and using a torque sensor to measure the torque being applied by the electric motor on the threaded cap and recording the peak torque that was applied during the complete loosening of said threaded cap.
Abstract: A device for applying molded plastic clips to unattached containers to form multiple container packages which includes a container alignment device for aligning the unattached containers for application of the clips by generating uniform forces between the unattached containers during the application of the clips. This is accomplished by a series of star wheels that generate a predetermined downstream force and a predetermined upstream force by adjusting the predetermined phase angle between the star wheel means. This results in a substantially zero resultant force which ensures uniform expansion and precise alignment of the containers during application of the clips.
Abstract: A can filling device for minimizing damage to cans during filling by providing full can pockets on a filler wheel having upper and lower arm portions which maintain the constant vertical orientation of the can during the filling process. A locator brush is disposed to induce an inward radial force relative to the rotating filler wheel to maintain the can within the can pocket. Additionally, a hold down guide assembly displaces the cans in a downward position on the rotating filler wheel to prevent damage by the spindle mechanism. Sufficient tangential clearance is provided by the star wheel pockets to prevent damage due to play between the rotating filler wheel and the star wheel. Close tolerances are provided in the radial direction to ensure full transfer of the can from the star wheel pocket to the filler wheel pocket.
Abstract: A carton blank formed from a paperboard sheet having a grain extending in one direction and at least one tear line in the carton blank which tear line extends in a direction across the grain.
Abstract: Apparatus and method for operating solution heat with vertical heat exchangers by providing an improved heat exchangers design and method for exchanging heat between a waste heat source and a binary working fluid preferably in an absorption heat pump unit and in particular the desorber section thereof.

Abstract: A carton separating apparatus for separating a carton from a stack of cartons comprising a rotatable body; a drive shaft connected to said rotatable body; a plate mounted axially adjacent said rotatable body; a separating blade removably attached to said plate and having a side surface facing said rotatable body and defining an axial gap therebetween adapted to receive a portion of a carton; a single screw device supporting and connecting said plate to said rotatable body and including a first threaded portion of one pitch connected to said rotatable body and a second threaded portion of another pitch connected to said plate whereby rotation of said single screw device causes differential relative axial displacement of said rotatable body and said plate while maintaining a parallel relationship between opposite gap defining surfaces thereof; and a detent device to biasingly hold said screw device in selected incremental adjusted positions.
Abstract: A modified solution heat pump having an absorption cycle for upgrading waste heat at a temperature between about 180.degree. F. (82.degree. C.) and 300.degree. F. (149.degree. C.) into steam having a temperature of from 230.degree. F. (110.degree. C.) to about 400.degree. F. (205.degree. C.) at a pressure of from about 20 psia (138 kPa) to about 250 psia (1.72 MPa) using a LiBr water binary solution.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for monitoring and controlling the longitudinal and lateral deformation and the lateral position of a moving web of plastic film material which is laminated to a moving web of paper material to form a laminated composite.
Abstract: A conversion die for completing can ends having a double can end sensor which senses the presence of a double can and generates a control signal in response thereto which terminates operation of the conversion die.
Abstract: Method and apparatus for spray coating the interior cavity of a plastic bottle with a barrier material. The apparatus includes a spraying assembly for moving a nozzle body into and out of the interior cavity of the bottle while the bottle rotates about its central longitudinal axis. A spraying control system causes a predetermined amount of coating material to be dispensed to selected regions of the bottle as a function of the nozzle body linear displacement relative the bottle.
