Abstract: An electrical sub-assembly comprises a stator having a plurality of coils and cooling means attached to the stator. The electrical sub-assembly further comprises a plurality of pairs of diodes attached to the cooling means, each pair of diodes being in antiparallel configuration and having three electrical terminals. One of the three electrical terminals is a common terminal shared by both diodes in each pair of diodes in each pair of diodes. A plurality of busbars electrically connect each of the diodes to at least one of the plurality of coils via one or more of the electrical terminals. In use, the cooling means is configured to simultaneously cool the stator and the plurality of diodes. The electrical sub-assembly may have particular application as a part of a switched reluctance machine.

Abstract: A rotor assembly (10) has a rotor support hub (12) which includes a plurality of first connection parts arranged about a periphery the rotor support hub. The rotor assembly further has a plurality of rotor segments (14) each having a second connection part. Each of the second connection parts are cooperable with at least one of the plurality of first connection parts to connect each of the rotor segments about the periphery the rotor support hub. A plurality of fixing parts (26) are each configured to be received between cooperating first and second connection parts and to form an inference fit therebetween so as to secure the rotor segments to the rotor support hub. The rotor support hub may comprise a plurality of laminations.

Abstract: A gear for use in a transmission system. The gear comprises an outer annular element having gear teeth on a radially outer surface thereof and an inner support element arranged coaxially with the outer annular element. The gear further comprises first and second opposing side walls, each side wall extending from the outer annular element to the inner support element to form an annular space. At least one of the first and second side walls extends from the outer annular element at an angle greater than 0 degrees with respect to a direction perpendicular to the rotational axis of the gear.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing a compressed coil and a system for holding a wire during the manufacture of a compressed coil are disclosed. The method includes providing a wire including a first lead section, a central section and a second lead section. The central section of the wire is wound around a bobbin to form a coil. A punch top is located over an end of the bobbin such that the end of the bobbin is located at least partially within a through-hole of the punch top. A second lead section of the wire is located within a groove in an outer surface of the punch top or bobbin and pressure is applied to the bobbin and/or punch top to compress the coil.
