  • Publication number: 20070044750
Abstract: A high flow air filtration system comprises a filter within a housing, a cover removably attached to the housing, an adapter between and in flow communication with the filter and an air intake of an engine. The cover includes a diverter, a flow directing portion, and a lip. The diverter is positioned between the filter and a flow of air from the vehicle ducting. The diverter slows the velocity of the flow and alters its path. The flow directing portion is adapted to direct the flow downward towards the filter. The lip is positioned along the front edge of the cover to increase the volume of external air entering the housing.

  • Publication number: 20060260469
Abstract: A high flow air filtration system comprises a filter element, a housing, a billet adapter, a radial seal device (ex. o-ring) and a tube. The filter element within the housing may be bolted to a vehicle chassis. One end of the billet adapter may be clamped to the filter element and the o-ring may couple the other end to the tube. The o-ring may form a “floating seal” between the tube and the billet adapter, allowing the tube to move relative to the billet adapter to compensate for movement of the engine relative to the chassis. The o-ring seal replaces the flexible hose/coupling, which reduces turbulence within the flow path to the engine. The billet adapter may include at least one angle for reducing the inner diameter of the billet adapter and further reducing turbulence within the flow path to the engine.

  • Publication number: 20050217625
Abstract: An air filter system includes a housing having, for example, a rear panel and a side panel, each having a top edge formed to interface to the hood of a vehicle so that the housing incorporates the vehicle hood to provide thermal isolation of intake air from engine compartment heat. The air filter system connects to a stock air intake tract through an air intake tube. The housing has a diagonal panel that the air intake tube is attached to and passes through. The diagonal panel is disposed at an angle that provides positioning of the air intake tube so that an effluent end of the air intake tube matches the stock location of the stock air intake tract. A washable, reusable air filter supported by the air intake tube filters the intake air and passes it through the air intake tube into the stock air intake tract.

  • Publication number: 20050210846
Abstract: An apparatus for filtering air includes a filter housing having an end plate and an annular aperture defining the size and shape of the end plate; and a filter element having a lip at an open end and a base at a closed end. The lip seals the filter element to the filter housing and to an unmodified, stock air intake of a vehicle. The filter media comprises pleated natural fiber fabric supported between two structural mesh layers. The base has a mounting post attached to the base that fits into a mounting hole in the end plate of the filter housing to hold the filter element in the housing. The base matches the size and shape of the end plate. The base and annular aperture are sized to optimize the filter media and pleat spacing for achieving a required airflow and maximal effective area for filtration.

  • Patent number: 6811588
Abstract: An automotive air filter including natural fiber filter media region, having piteous, absorbent, wickable natural fibers, a synthetic fiber filter media region including, absorbent spunbond polyester filters. The natural fiber region receives an influent fluid stream containing particles, trapping some particles. The manufactured fiber region removes residual particles, producing a filtered effluent stream. The fluid stream passes unimpaired through the fiber pores. Two structural mesh layers sandwich natural and manufactured fiber regions. Oil is disposed in the oleophilic cotton mesh. Fiber regions have layers disposed in gradient density arrangement.
