Patent number: 11085885Abstract: A system for inspecting an interior surface of a girth weld region of a pipeline includes a robot that includes a scanner mounted on a carriage for scanning the interior surface of the girth weld region to generate surface profile data. A profile analyzer receives the surface profile data and outputs an indication of whether the interior surface of the girth weld region is suitable for being coated. In some embodiments, an imaging system captures images of the girth weld region as it is being scanned. In a method of coating the girth weld regions of a pipeline, the images of a girth weld region found to be unsuitable for being coated based on the scanning data are used to certify whether the girth weld region is suitable for being coated.Type: GrantFiled: January 19, 2018Date of Patent: August 10, 2021Assignee: Aegion Coating Services, LLCInventors: Renato Sanchez, Darrell Davis, Stephen Sears, Kirk Schmitz, Udaykiran Rokkam

Patent number: 10166567Abstract: A coating apparatus for coating a perimeter surface of a pipeline. A frame selectively mounts a sprayer on the pipeline. The sprayer can spray fluid along a flow path in a spraying mode and preparation mode. In the preparation mode, a fluid diverter moves into the flow path to divert the fluid delivered from the sprayer away from the pipeline. In the spraying mode, the fluid diverter moves out of the flow path to permit the sprayer to coat the perimeter surface of the pipeline with a curable liquid. A vacuum system can draw a vacuum through the diverter to remove the fluid the sprayer sprays in the preparation mode. The flow path can be located in a spray shroud. The diverter can fluidly couple the vacuum system to the shroud interior in the spraying mode to remove overspray.Type: GrantFiled: September 1, 2017Date of Patent: January 1, 2019Assignee: Aegion Coating Services, LLCInventors: Rick Kimpel, Gunnar Power, Wilfredo Caraballo, Bryan Karasek
