Abstract: An assembly is disclosed. The assembly includes a cylindrical sleeve and a length of material that is wound upon itself defining a wound roll. The cylindrical sleeve includes an inner surface and an outer surface. The inner surface of the cylindrical sleeve defines a passage extending through the cylindrical sleeve. The length of material includes an inner surface and an outer surface. A portion of the inner surface of the length of material forms a passage extending through the wound roll. The outer surface of the cylindrical sleeve is secured to the portion of the inner surface of the length of material that forms the passage extending through the wound roll. • Patent number: 7921756
Abstract: The present invention relates to a film cutter assembly in which a blade housing slides along a pair of rails. The blade housing is formed of an upper portion for housing the blade. Either end of the upper portion has a rounded inclined shape from a bottom edge to form a sled shaped runner. The sled shaped runner extends beyond the blade such that the user is prevented from touching the blade. A lower portion of the blade housing slidables bilaterally in a cavity formed below the rails. A clearance is formed between the blade and the rails to allow the blade housing to easily slide over a film to be cut even if the film bunched or doubled over. The upper portion of the blade housing has a concave shape for allowing a user's fingers to easily grip the blade housing. Preferably, the rails are formed of a material which provides an attractive charge to attract the film to the rail and help hold the film flat before and after cutting. For example, the rails can be formed of flexible vinyl or acetal.

  • Patent number: 7918151
Abstract: The present invention relates to a film cutter assembly in which a blade housing slides bilaterally along a pair of rails. The blade housing houses a blade. An elongated rail base is coupled or integral with a pair of rails. The rails are formed of a material which provides a cling property to hold the film to the rail and maintain the film in flat position before, during and after cutting. A double-side adhesive tape can be applied to a surface of the elongated rail base which is adapted for attaching the elongated rail base to a carton of film.

  • Patent number: 6132827
Abstract: A multilayer industrial stretch film is provided with at least one cling layer and is formed by coextruding a film-formable polymer with a tackifier. The invention provides a multilayer film having at least two skin layers and at least one core layer in which at least one of the skin layers is derived from a mixture of the tackifier and the film-formable polymer. At least one of the core layers can include a vapor corrosion inhibitor (VCI). Beneficial results are obtained by also including a lubricating composition in at least one, if not both, skin layers when at least one of the core layers contains a VCI. The lubricant in the skin layer effectively reduces the extrusion temperature (for blown and cast films), and tends to avoid degrading or igniting the VCI.

  • Patent number: 5885703
Abstract: An aroma barrier layer for a packaging film is provided which contains a homogeneous blend of an amorphous nylon component and a maleic anhydride-modified polyolefin component. The maleic-anhydride content in the polyolefin component and the relative amounts of the two components are selected such that the two components are compatible with one another and the barrier layer constitutes a continuous homogeneous layer substantially free of any platelet formation and distinct layers. Compositions of the homogeneous blend and packaging films including the barrier layer are also provided.

  • Patent number: 5792549
Abstract: A coextruded biaxially oriented polyolefin packaging film has a cold seal release layer, a core layer, and a cold seal receptive skin layer. The cold seal release layer is fabricated of about 1% to about 80% by weight polyolefin polymer selected from isotactic homopolymer polypropylene, syndiotactic homopolymer polypropylene, homopolymer polyethylene, ethylene-alpha-olefin copolymers made by metallocene catalysis, e.g. ethylene-butylene (plastomers), blends of plastomers with syndiotactic homopolymer polypropylene, blends of syndiotactic homopolymer polypropylene with ethylene-propylene random copolymer, and mixtures thereof. In addition, the release layer contains from about 20% to about 99% by weight polybutylene-polyethylene copolymer containing between about 0.5% and about 6.0% by weight ethylene and between about 94% and about 99.5% by weight butylene, and optionally an effective amount of non-migratory slip agent.

  • Patent number: 5758559
Abstract: A plastic film cutter for clamping to an upstanding edge of a carton housing a supply of plastic film. The film is pulled across the top of an elongated cutter body which has a groove to guide a sliding cutter. The lower portion of the cutter has a plurality of inverted "U" shaped clamps for fitting over the carton edge. At least one of the clamps has a projection on its inner surface to prevent the cutter from being used on cartons for which it is not intended, that is, cartons which do not have a corresponding cutout to receive the projection.

  • Patent number: 5756219
Abstract: The invention provides a stretch wrapping film (i.e., non-heat shrinkable) having (i) skin layers and (ii) at least one core layer which includes at least 25% by weight, more preferably from about 60% to about 90% by weight (of the layer composition) of a propylene polymer, preferably a propylene homopolymer; for the film as a whole, the propylene content ranges from about 10% to about 65% by weight (of the film). In more preferred embodiments, the films include skin layers, intermediate layers, and a core layer. At least one of the intermediate and core layers contains the propylene polymer, which is preferably a homopolymer or a blend of homopolymer with linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE); the skin layers comprise an ethylene polymer, preferably a tacky LLDPE composition. These films have improved strength and tear and puncture resistance, and are especially suited for industrial wrapping of loaded pallets and other large objects such as furniture.
