    Abstract: The present invention relates to a method to determine the temperature of one or both surfaces of the two surfaces of a Peltier element. One then calculates the temperature difference (dT) between the surfaces from a known relation for the Seebeck voltage (U.sub.p) as a function of the temperature difference and the mean temperature (T.sub.i) of the element from a known relation for the temperature dependence of the internal resistance (R.sub.i) of the element. Finally, to the mean temperature (T.sub.i) one adds and from it subtracts respectively half the temperature difference (dT) between the surfaces.

    Abstract: A telescoping torque transmitting shaft comprising a shaft having at least three longitudinally extending circumferentially spaced guide grooves and a sleeve axially slidably surrounding the shaft and having an inner counter groove opposite each guide groove. Torque is transmitted between the shaft and the sleeve by a row of balls for each guide groove, each ball being partially received in its guide groove and partially received in the counter groove opposite its guide groove. At least certain of the balls in one row are of resilient elastic material; all others are substantially harder. Bias imposed upon the shaft by the resilient balls, urging the shaft in one lateral direction relative to the sleeve, maintains every ball in torque transmitting contact with both the shaft and the sleeve, while the harder balls in the other rows, by such contact, maintain the elastic balls compressed for exerting such bias.

The guide mechanism also incorporates a channel means (10) through which during a pressure increase phase of the propellant gases in the barrel the gases are passed to a chamber (9) located on one side of the piston and build-up a piston working pressure (p) in said chamber. The channel means (10) has arranged therein a valve (11) which is operative in throttling the channel means during a pressure reduction phase of the propellant gases.

A condenser is so arranged as to separate the exhaust from the engine into a condensable exhaust fraction and into a non-condensable exhaust fraction. A compressor, which is connected to the engine for the purpose of silencing, is so arranged as to compress only the non-condensable exhaust fraction which, after compression, is discharged through an exhaust outlet into the surrounding sea water. The condenser is in the form of a sleeve which for silencing purposes encloses both the engine and the compressor. A sound-deadening gap is arranged between the condenser and the hull of the vehicle.

    Abstract: Mortar ammunition with a projectile body and a tail tube containing the necessary propellant charge. The tail tube and the projectile body constitute two separate components which, for the purpose of being loaded into the mortar, are capable of being lowered in turn into the mortar via its barrel until they come into contact with each other inside the barrel. When the mortar is fired the projectile body will leave the mortar without taking with it the tail tube. The projectile body and the tail tube make contact with each other via a girdle fixed to the tail tube, said girdle being caused by the gases from the propellant charge to become detached from the tail tube and to become securely attached to the projectile body, so that the girdle is carried out of the barrel by the projectile body.
