  • Patent number: 6197472
Abstract: The present invention relates to a recording material having a substrate and a negative-working, radiation-sensitive layer which contains a diazonium salt, metal-free colored pigments dispersed in an organic polymeric binder, transparent spacer pigments having a pore volume of more than 1.0 ml/g and a polymeric binder. The predispersal of the colored pigments is achieved by milling with an organic polymeric binder containing hydroxyl groups, some or all of which have been reacted with a di- or polycarboxylic anhydride so that the binder has an acid number of from 20 to 200. Printing plates in which the printing parts have a clearly visible contrast relative to the substrate can be produced from the recording material.

  • Patent number: 6171756
Abstract: Organic photoprecursors of amines are provided for use in photosensitive imaging systems, finding particular application in the preparation of lithographic printing plates. Said photoprecursors generate free amines on exposure to long wavelength UV or visible radiation, have high solubility in organic solvents, and include photolabile 2-nitrobenzyl functional groups. Methods for the synthesis of the photoprecursors are described, and the use of the said photoprecursors for the production of printing plates using both positive working and negative working techniques are discussed.

  • Patent number: 5786128
Abstract: The present invention discloses a method for making a lithographic printing plate comprising the steps of:(1) image-wise exposing an imaging element having on a hydrophilic surface of a lithographic base a photosensitive layer comprising a photosensitive polymer containing aryl-diazosulfonate units;(2) and developing a thus obtained image-wise exposed imaging element by mounting it on a print cylinder of a printing press and supplying an aqueous dampening liquid and/or ink to said photosensitive layer while rotating said print cylinder.Excellent printing results are obtained with a printing plate perpared according to the above described method. The lithographic base may be an anodized aluminium or a support provided with an ink-repellant layer containing a cross-linked hydrophilic binder.

  • Patent number: 5587269
Abstract: The present invention provides a thermal imaging process using (i) a donor element comprising on a support having a thickness of 3-10 .mu.m a donor layer comprising a binder, a thermotransferable reducing agent capable of reducing a silver source to metallic silver upon heating and particles protruding from the surface of said donor layer and (ii) a receiving element comprising on a support a receiving layer comprising a silver source capable of being reduced by means of heat in the presence of a reducing agent, said thermal imaging process comprising the steps ofbringing said donor layer of said donor element into face to face relationship with said receiving layer of said receiving element,image-wise heating a thus obtained assemblage, thereby causing image-wise transfer of an amount of said thermotransferable reducing agent to said receiving element in accordance with the amount of heat supplied by said thermal head andseparating said donor element from said receiving element.
