Publication number: 20150366230Abstract: The present invention is based on the surprising result that packaging materials comprising at least one moisture modulating agent can significantly reduce moisture loss, physical damage, and/or microbial decay of produce. Inclusion of such moisture modulating agent(s) can provide at least one of the following advantages: (1) less disease development as compared to traditional packaging material; (2) fresher, firmer produce with less rot or defects (for example cracking or splitting); (3) better see-through as compared to traditional packaging material; (4) preventing the humidity inside the bag from coalescing into large drops or even pools of water (i.e., less water accumulation or moisture condensation within the package); and (5) providing sufficient gas transmission of oxygen (O2)/carbon dioxide (CO2) and/or a quality management agent, for example ethylene or 1-MCP, for better quality control during storage at room temperature (shelf life).Type: ApplicationFiled: May 22, 2015Publication date: December 24, 2015Applicant: AgroFresh Inc.Inventors: Tim Malefyt, Aishwarya Balasubramanian

Patent number: 9212373Abstract: A gene expression system for controllable expression of ethylene response in a plant cell includes an activation cassette comprising a DNA-binding domain that recognizes a response element; an ecdysone receptor ligand binding domain; and an activation domain; and a target cassette comprising an inducible promoter, which comprises, in operative association, the response element and a minimal promoter responsive to the activation domain. The inducible promoter controls the expression of a nucleic acid sequence that encodes a selected regulatory protein that modifies sensitivity to ethylene of certain signal proteins in the plant. Interaction among the components of the activation cassette and target cassette, when in a plant cell, in the presence of an inducing composition, increases expression of the selected regulatory protein, and in turn decreases expression and accumulation of the signal protein in the plant, thereby and decreasing ethylene sensitivity in the plant cell.Type: GrantFiled: March 2, 2010Date of Patent: December 15, 2015Assignee: AgroFresh Inc.Inventor: Jeffrey L. Patent number: 6313068Abstract: The present invention generally relates to the regulation of plant physiology, in particular to methods for inhibiting the ethylene response in plants or plant products, and has three embodiments. The first embodiment relates to methods of minimizing impurities capable of reversibly binding to plant ethylene receptor sites during the synthesis of cyclopropene and its derivatives such as methylcyclopropene, thereby avoiding the negative effects these impurities have on plants treated with cyclopropene and its derivatives. The second embodiment relates to complexes formed from molecular encapsulation agents such as cyclodextrin, and cyclopropene and its derivatives such as methylcyclopropene, in addition to cyclopentadiene and diazocyclopentadiene and their derivatives, thereby providing a convenient means for storing and transporting these compounds capable of inhibiting the ethylene response in plants, which are reactive gases and highly unstable because of oxidation and other potential reactions.Type: GrantFiled: August 20, 1999Date of Patent: November 6, 2001Assignee: AgroFresh, Inc.Inventors: James Daly, Bob Kourelis
