  • Patent number: 11059345
Abstract: A storage evaporator for an air conditioning system in a vehicle is provided that includes phase change material-containing tubes arranged side-by-side in contact with refrigerant-containing tubes. The storage evaporator includes an upper coolant tank, a lower coolant tank, refrigerant-containing tubes fluidly connecting said tanks, and phase change material-containing tubes provided in contact with said refrigerant tubes. The refrigerant tubes have flat sides and the phase change material-containing tubes have flat sides. The flat sides of the refrigerant tubes are attached to the flat sides of said phase change material-containing tubes. The phase change material may be any of several materials and may an eutectic, a salt hydrate, and an organic material. In operation, cold energy is stored in the phase change material when the air conditioning compressor is in its “On” position. This cold energy is released from the phase change material when the compressor is in its “Off” position.

  • Publication number: 20190204028
Abstract: A evaporator provides an evaporator that includes an evaporator core, an evaporator tank attached to the evaporator core, at least one baffle incorporated into the evaporator tank, and multi-piece end plate assemblies attached to the tank. Each end plate assembly includes inner and an outer end plate layers. Each of the layers includes crimps. The inner end plate layer is preliminarily attached to the open end of the evaporator tank, during which proper alignment of the plate to the tank is made. The crimps of the inner end plate layer are crimped over. The outer end plate layer is then preliminarily attached to the inner end plate layer by crimping, thereby allowing preliminary attachment of the end plates to the tank to assure proper alignment prior to the end plates being fixed in position by a method such as brazing.

  • Publication number: 20190054799
Abstract: A two-door HVAC air intake comprising an air intake body having a fresh air opening and first and second recirculated air openings is disclosed. A first door is provided that is movable from a first recirculation opening-unblocking/fresh air opening-blocking position to a first recirculation opening-blocking/fresh air opening-unblocking position. A second door is provided that is movable from a second recirculation opening-unblocking position to a second recirculation opening-blocking position. The doors may be shell doors or flap doors. Fresh air mode is achieved by moving the first and second doors to their recirculation opening-blocking positions. Partial air recirculation mode is achieved by moving the first door to its first recirculation opening-blocking position and the second door to its second recirculation opening-unblocking position.

  • Patent number: 7002316
Abstract: A drive for a vehicle HVAC vent door includes a drive transmission mounted within the shaft for the vent door. The drive transmission is of the sort commonly known as a wave drive transmission, wherein a lobed member is driven by an oblong drive shaft. The lobed member selectively drives an externally threaded flex ring that in turn engages an internally toothed drive transmission member. The internally toothed drive transmission member drives the shaft for the vent door. In this fashion, a relatively small motor is provided which has sufficient power to drive the vent door. Further, an electrical connection for supplying control signals is mounted at one end of the shaft and has a non-symmetrical configuration such that the motor and vent door will be properly orientated and relative to the vehicle.
