  • Patent number: 4680393
Abstract: The present invention is a process for the synthesis of tertiary alkanolamines by reacting a secondary amine with an alkanediol. High selectivity for the production of alkanolamines is achieved by carrying out the reaction in the presence of a compound or complex of ruthenium in chemical combination or in admixture with an organic phosphine ligand. The organic phosphine ligand is present in an amount such that the ratio of gram mole ligand/gram atom ruthenium is greater than 5.
