  • Patent number: 4848996
Abstract: The present invention is an improvement to a standard nitrogen generator. The improvement is two-fold; first, the addition of one or more distillation stages above the reboiler, which stages effectively transform the reboiler/condenser into a partial low pressure column and allow further separation (rectification) of the nitrogen generator bottoms liquid into two streams. Second, the recycle of the overhead stream (at a composition close to that of air) from the top of the low pressure column to the main air compressor. Additionally, at least a portion of the oxygen-enriched stream that exits the low pressure column below the bottom tray is expanded to provide refrigeration for the cycle.

  • Patent number: 4846851
Abstract: Crude ammonia synthesis gas is obtained by primary steam reforming of a hydrocarbon gas mixture rich in methane, such as natural gas, followed by secondary reforming of the primary reformate with added air and shift conversion of the contained CO to CO.sub.2. The shift conversion product is first freed of contained CO.sub.2 by selective absorption in a novel PSA unit having an integrated B section for removal of remaining impurities such as carbon monoxide and methane, thereby providing as product a gas stream comprised of hydrogen and nitrogen in approximate 3:1 molar ratio accompanied by a small amount or argon derived from the air stream used in the secondary reforming step. Alternative embodiments are disclosed for removal of CO from the gas stream, before its entry into the NH.sub.3 conversion operation; any residual CO that might have slipped thorugh the absorbent bed of the B section is converted to CH.sub.4.

  • Patent number: 4845366
Abstract: The present invention involves apparatus and methods for introducing ion source material into an ion implant system for use in connection with Freeman type sources. A vaporizer unit which is removable from the system is prepared for insertion into the ion implant equipment outside the system. It is cleaned, a new vial of ion source material is introduced and it may be pre-heated to degas it or to prepare it for use in the system. The vaporizer unit which is currently in use is removed, to be cleaned and recharged, and the previously prepared vaporizer unit is inserted, sealed in place and the vacuum established. The ion implant system is, then, ready to resume operation with minimal down time. The vaporizer unit comprises a vaporizer block of high heat conductive material such as copper which includes three cavities or wells. One cavity contains a heater, one a gas flow path for heating and/or cooling, and one contains a sealed vial of semiconductor dopant.

  • Patent number: 4840195
Abstract: A gas pressure regulator including a housing having a high pressure chamber into which the gas to be regulated is fed, a low pressure chamber, and an orifice between the high pressure chamber and the low pressure chamber. A bonnet is mounted on the housing across the low pressure chamber. A flexible diaphragm is mounted across the low pressure chamber and separates the low pressure chamber from the bonnet. A rod extends through the orifice and connects the flexible diaphragm to a valve plug in the high pressure chamber so that movement of the flexible diaphragm moves the valve plug toward and away from the orifice. A rigid piston is slidable mounted in the bonnet. A spacer connects the flexible diaphragm and the rigid piston in spaced relation to provide a chamber therebetween. An adjustment stem having a knob on its end is threaded through the bonnet and a spring is compressed between the adjustment stem and the piston.
