  • Publication number: 20200074339
Abstract: The present disclosure includes theoretical models and methods for identifying and quantifying information loss in a system due to uncertainty and analyzing the impact on the reliability of system performance. These models and methods join Fano's equality with the Data Processing Inequality in a Markovian channel construct in order to characterize information flow within a multi-component nonlinear system and allow the determination of risk and characterization of system performance upper bounds based on the information loss attributed to each component. The present disclosure additionally includes methods for estimating the sampling requirements and for relating sampling uncertainty to sensing uncertainty. The present disclosure further includes methods for determining the optimal design of components of a nonlinear system in order to minimize information loss, while maximizing information flow and mutual information.

  • Patent number: 10578521
Abstract: The described embodiments relate to systems, methods, and apparatuses for collecting and testing particles emitted from a filter of a duct using an electromechanical scanning system that is contained within the duct. The electromechanical scanning system includes a stacked arrangement of ports that extend over a surface of the filter in order to collect particles that are passing through the filter. The stacked arrangement of ports is connected to a magnetic rail device that maneuvers the stacked arrangement of ports to, and between, distal ends of the filter. Control signals are sent to the magnetic rail device from a controller that is external to the housing and connected to electrodes located on a surface of the housing. The electrodes are sealed such that particles do not unintentionally escape from the duct.

  • Patent number: 10578331
Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to a method for controlling a system that includes a modular set having a plurality of variable frequency modular units. The method includes setting a load ratio range for the plurality of variable frequency modular units, inputting an energy adjustment amount, and setting different operations for the modular set based on the energy adjustment amount. During a first operation, a first frequency adjustment amount of a corresponding variable frequency modular unit is determined based on the energy adjustment amount and an operating position of the corresponding variable frequency modular unit. During a second operation, a second frequency adjustment amount of a corresponding variable frequency modular unit is determined based on the energy adjustment amount and the operating position of the variable frequency modular unit. The first operation or the second operation causes the variable frequency modular units to operate within the load ratio range.
