Patent number: 7373361Abstract: Remote devices communicate with a central server in order to provide event tracking information pertaining to a business process, which is conducted by persons performing multiple roles. Software, including a state machine, is downloaded onto the device. A first state table is also downloaded and applied to the state machine in order to configure the device to operate in accordance with a first role. While the device is configured to operate in accordance with the first role, field data is captured and processed with the state machine in accordance with the first state table to generate event tracking information, which is transmitted to the server. Then, a second state table is applied to the state machine previously downloaded in order to reconfigure the device to operate in accordance with a second role. The device is reconfigured from the first role to the second role without changing the state machine on the device.Type: GrantFiled: September 22, 2005Date of Patent: May 13, 2008Assignee: AirClic, Inc.Inventors: Andrew Monroe, Andrew Leamon

Patent number: 6993580Abstract: A plurality of end users remotely access a network that includes a hub site and a number of provider sites. Information relating to the end user is associated with a non-externally identifying symbol. Public end-user information is shared with providers without permission from the end user. Private end-user information is shared with providers only upon receiving permission from the end user.Type: GrantFiled: October 4, 2001Date of Patent: January 31, 2006Assignee: Airclic Inc.Inventors: David Isherwood, John Lommock, Kaj Nygren, Peter Ritz

Patent number: 6871780Abstract: An end-user is directed to a location on the Internet based on machine-readable codes scanned by the end user. The end-user is associated with at least one of the following: an end-user country selection, and end-user language selection, a service category, an access media type, and the presence of an access certificate. A database with a plurality of entries is provided. Each of the entries is associated with a machine-readable code and includes one or more different network addresses. Code information associated with the scans of machine readable codes made by the end-user is received at a network site. In response to the scan information, entries associated with the machine-readable codes scanned by the end-user are retrieved from the database. At least some of the entries include information irrelevant to the information associated with the end user. Only relevant entries are selected. The end user is connected with the network addresses selected.Type: GrantFiled: November 27, 2001Date of Patent: March 29, 2005Assignee: AirClic, Inc.Inventors: Kaj Nygren, Thomas Stephanson, Roger Skagerwall

Patent number: 6753883Abstract: The present invention describes a revolutionary new device bridging the gap between the virtual multimedia-based Internet world and the real world, best exemplified by print media. More particularly, the invention relates to communicating multimedia information using a scanner for machine-readable code containing a link information corresponding to a provider information depicted on the printed medium, a user interface for obtaining user input information corresponding to the provider information, a communications bridge for sending the link information and the user input information via the network, a receiver in communication with the scanner, capable of receiving the link information and user input information, and further capable of receiving and playing a multimedia information sequence, and a portal server in communication with the scanner via the network capable of selecting a multimedia information sequence corresponding to the link information and the user input information.Type: GrantFiled: February 14, 2002Date of Patent: June 22, 2004Assignee: Airclic Inc.Inventors: Robert J. Schena, Mike E. Anderer, Peter B. Ritz, Mike Bernstein

Patent number: 6691914Abstract: Information representative of scanned machine-readable codes is transmitted between network sites. Information associated with scans of machine-readable codes are received at a first site and stored within a database, along with a unique alpha-numeric identifier. The end user is directed from the first site to a second site with a URL that includes a symbol identifying an address of the second site on the network and the unique alpha-numeric identifier. A request (which includes a representation of the unique alpha-numeric identifier) for the information stored at the first site is received. The information stored at the first site is sent to the second site.Type: GrantFiled: October 4, 2001Date of Patent: February 17, 2004Assignee: AirClic, Inc.Inventors: David Isherwood, John Lommock, Kaj Nygren, Peter Ritz

Patent number: 6546418Abstract: A method for bridging the gap between the virtual multimedia-based Internet world and the physical world of tangible object media, such as print media. More particularly, a method for managing a domain name service based on initiating a communication from an object containing provider information using a scanner, a portal server and a receiver connected across a network. The method involves scanning a machine-readable code containing a link information corresponding to the provider information from the object using the scanner and storing the machine-readable code in a memory. The link information is then extracted from the machine readable code in the memory. A user input information corresponding to the provider information is also obtained and stored in the memory. The link information and the user input information are then sent to the portal server via the network.Type: GrantFiled: September 13, 2001Date of Patent: April 8, 2003Assignee: AirClic, Inc.Inventors: Robert J. Schena, Mike Anderer, Peter B. Ritz, Mike Bernstein

Publication number: 20020019784Abstract: Methods and apparatus are disclosed for bridging the gap between the virtual multimedia-based Internet world and the physical world of tangible object media, such as print media. More particularly, the methods are based on initiating a communication from a printed medium or other object containing provider information using a scanner, a portal server and a receiver connected across a network. The method involves scanning a machine-readable code corresponding to the provider information from the object using the scanner and storing the machine-readable code in a memory. The provider information may include network link information, or it may include information from which a default portal server can deduce an appropriate link automatically. The link information is then extracted from the machine readable code in the memory. A user input information corresponding to the provider information may also be obtained and stored in the memory.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 10, 2001Publication date: February 14, 2002Applicant: AirClic, Inc.Inventor: Peter B.
