  • Patent number: 8136262
Abstract: A drier information system is provided including display means relating to a given region of the system which means serves, at least while a drying cycle is in operation, to provide a visual display indicating at least one of the following parameters: the extent of the region; a boundary of the region; direction or example of manipulation of a pair of hands or other article while in the region to provide for a preferred drying sequence. The visual display can represent the parameters as a two dimensional array within or adjacent the region. Alternatively the visual display can represent the parameters as a virtual or actual three dimensional array within or adjacent the region.

  • Publication number: 20090000147
Abstract: A drier unit comprising a housing with an air inlet and an air outlet, a flow duct through the housing linking the air inlet to the air outlet; a fan disposed in the flow duct so as to displace air along the duct from the inlet to the outlet characterised in that the air outlet includes more than one outlet aperture, each aperture being directed to provide for the passage of air into a drying region adjacent the housing, air flow from one aperture being caused to interact with air flow from another aperture to generate swirling of air in the drying region. The invention further envisages means providing for air flow through the apertures to be coupled so that in the event of one or some of the apertures being blocked flow through the remaining unblocked aperture or apertures is increased.

  • Patent number: 7063189
Abstract: A lift system for and method of controlling a lift car. The car providing service to a number of separate stations to enable a person or an article waiting in a predetermined region outside the lift car to enter or leave the lift car. The method including the steps of providing the lift car a scanning device directed outwardly from the lift car. Each of the stations having an independent scanning extension. When the lift car arrives at one of the stations equipped with a scanning device, the scanning device and the scanning extension are juxtaposed to form an operable combination. Scanning the predetermined region with the operable combination to produce an output signal representing a state of the predetermined region, such as whether the region is occupied or not. Using the signal or a function of the signal to regulate subsequent operation of the lift car.

  • Patent number: 5111594
Abstract: A hand drier has an air outlet at which an object for drying is presented about which are mounted a plurality of transmitters of electromagnetic radiation located in the vicinity of the outlet, the transmitters being spaced apart one from another and from at least one receiver sensitive to the radiation. The receiver is masked to prevent direct emissions from any and all of the transmitters reaching the receiver; the transmitters and the, or each, receiver are located relative to a working volume at the air outlet operate so that on an object being located in the working volume a drying cycle is initiated by the passage of emission from the transmitters being scattered by the object so as to cause at least indirect emission from the object to fall on the, or at least one, receiver. Preferably the transmitters and the or each receiver are operable with electromagnetic radiation which is at or near the infra red portion of the spectrum.

  • Patent number: 4993172
Abstract: There is provided a hand drier comprising: a rigid housing having an air inlet and an air outlet; a flow passage through the housing having the inlet as its upstream end and the outlet as its downstream end; a fan incorporated in the flow passage the fan being in the form of a backward curved multi-bladed radial flow device; a heat transfer volume incorporated in the flow passage, the volume housing a heating element; a motor mounted in the housing for driving the fan, the motor being a brushless direct current device; and control means for operating the motor and heating element. The term `backward curved` applied to a blade refers to a blade which, when viewed along the axis of rotation of the fan, has a root from which the blade extends both outwardly and backwardly relative to a radius from the axis of rotation extending through the root. Thus relative to the direction of travel the root is the leading part of the blade and the outer end the trailing part.
