Publication number: 20130106405Abstract: A device for detecting the position of an actuator has a conductor arrangement, which detects magnetic fluxes flowing therethrough and converts same into a voltage signal that is dependent on the position, at which the magnetic flux penetrates the conductor arrangement. The induced voltage signal is proportional to the position of the magnetic flux, measured along a predetermined axis starting from a predetermined starting point. A position-determining unit is connected to the conductor arrangement for determining the position of a magnetic flux generated by the actuator and passing though the conductor arrangement. A transmission unit, by way of which the determined position is transmitted to a receiver, is arranged downstream of the position-determining unit.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 28, 2011Publication date: May 2, 2013Applicants: SEIBERSDORF LABOR GMBH, AIT AUSTRIAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY GMBHInventors: Manfred Bammer, Gernot Schmid

Publication number: 20110125428Abstract: A method records and transmits data between a transmission unit that has a first antenna and a measurement module which has a sensor for recording measured variables and converts the measured variables into electric signals. Data is bi-directionally transmitted between the measurement module and the transmission unit located within the near field of the measurement module by use of a second antenna that is arranged on the measurement module. The electromagnetic energy of the signal that is applied to the second antenna is transformed and temporarily stored by a reception unit which is arranged downstream of the second antenna. The first antenna of the transmission unit is put in an inactive state at least during the time the measured variables are sensed by the measurement module or the sensors.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 14, 2009Publication date: May 26, 2011Applicant: AIT AUSTRIAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY GMBHInventors: Rudolf Heer, Hubert Brueckl, Hans Kroath, Juergen Wissenwasser

Publication number: 20100105026Abstract: Optical measurement methods are described that are suitable for determining the relaxation behavior of nanoparticles dispersed in a solution. The particles have optically anisotropic properties and are alignable by an external stimulus, for example, an electric or magnetic field. In this manner the optical detection of certain molecules that can bind specifically to the surface of the nanoparticles and thus change the relaxation behavior of the nanoparticles as well as to provide devices for carrying out the methods is possible.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 13, 2009Publication date: April 29, 2010Applicant: AIT AUSTRIAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY GMBHInventors: Hubert Brückl, Jörg Schotter, Ole Bethge

Patent number: 6432602Abstract: A transfer printing process is provided which both uses conventional equipment, and which can be used to add second level printing to an existing document such as a passport. All of the information to be applied in a second level printing procedure to a base sheet is assembled as a complete image. The image is printed in reverse, as a stable mirror image, onto the coated surface of a release paper by a conventional laser printer. The release paper carrying the reversed image and the base sheet are then placed into a heated press, with the image adjacent the base sheet. By the use of heat and pressure the image is transferred from the release paper onto the base sheet. The release paper is then removed, leaving the second level printed image on the base sheet.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 1999Date of Patent: August 13, 2002Assignee: Ait Advanced Information Technologies CorporationInventors: Gary van Beek, Randall Hayman, Alan Boate

Patent number: 6224445Abstract: An actinic radiation source (20) includes an anode (36) upon which an electron beam from a cathode ray gun (24) impinges. The anode (36) includes a window area (52) formed by a silicon membrane. The electron beam upon striking the anode (36) permeates the window area (52) to penetrate into medium surrounding actinic radiation source (20). A method for making an anode (36) uses a substrate having both a thin first layer (44) and a thicker second layer (46) of single crystal silicon material between which is interposed a layer of etch stop material (48). The second layer (46) is anisotropically etched to the etch stop material (48) to define the electron beam window area (52) on the first layer (44). That portion of the etch stop layer (48) exposed by etching through, the second layer (46) is then removed. The anode (36) thus fabricated has a thin, monolithic, low-stress and defect-free silicon membrane electron beam window area (52) provided by the first layer of the substrate.Type: GrantFiled: July 12, 2000Date of Patent: May 1, 2001Assignee: AITInventors: Armand P. Patent number: 5856888Abstract: An optical system for an optical character reader in which a camera, such as a TV camera, reads an image field in a document, includes at least one pair of mirrors which shift half of the image both laterally and vertically to convert a relatively long image, for example with a length to height aspect ratio of 1.5:8, into a rectangular image with a much lower aspect ratio, for example 3:4. Preferably two pairs of mirrors are used, so that the image light path for both parts of the image field is the same length. This optical system reshapes the image field from one having an aspect ratio which does not match the 3:4 aspect ratio of most cameras, such as camcorders, TV cameras, security and surveillance cameras and the like, into one that does, thus significantly simplifying the optical character reader, and lowering its cost.Type: GrantFiled: May 13, 1996Date of Patent: January 5, 1999Assignee: AIT CorporationInventors: William Ross, Gary van Beek
