  • Patent number: 9914955
Abstract: The present invention relates to a genetically encoded FRET-based biosensor to monitor the activity of matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP-9). MMP-9 is an extracellular acting endopeptidase implicated in both physiological and pathological processes. A genetically encoded FRET biosensor anchored in the cellular membrane allows studying the proteolytic activity of MMP-9 with high spatiotemporal resolution at the exact region of MMP-9 action on the cell. Applicability of the biosensor, both in vitro and in vivo in living cells, has been demonstrated by ratiometric analysis of cleavage of the biosensor by a purified auto-activating mutant of MMP-9.

  • Patent number: 5228324
Abstract: This present invention solves the problem of bending objects, particularly flat parallel ones, without employing an external force. The method according to this present invention involves subjecting the material of the object bent to a repetitive, two-phase heating and cooling process.During the first phase, the material undergoes heating with a concentrated stream of energy causing a thermal effect along the predetermined bending line and a partial plasticizing, melting and flowing out in the region of the bending line.On the other hand, the material is subjected in the second phase to being cooled at ambient terperature or, additionally, in a stream of a blown air, thereby causing the previously heated material to shrink along fibers in the direction perpendicular to the bending line due to the internal stresses created by the thermal shrinkage of the material in the heated region, and thus the deformation of the material to be permanently changed. The method is suitable for bending metal objects.

  • Patent number: 5080333
Abstract: This invention relates to a spring two states of stable equilibrium. This spring is to be used for accumulation of elastic strain energy and for setting the mutual position of movable co-acting parts. The spring consists of at least one pair of elastic strips and two shaped elements determined by the angles, the elastic strips of each pair being connected to one another, preferably at their ends, with arms of the shaped elements in such a way that between the neighboring sides of the strips there is a slot of length and a variable width. Strips are situated in relation to one another in such a way that they are inclined at an angle as determined by the inclination angle of shaped elements. The invention is applicable for clamping various parts, for instance, for closing kinematic chains, for accumulation of elastic strain energy in bumpers, as well as for ensuring the state of equilibrium of component parts of various mechanisms.

  • Patent number: 4926692
Abstract: The invention solves the problem of measurement of internal stresses in cylindrical objects, such as axles, shafts and tubes made of material with varying non-uniform homogeneous mechanical properties. The method consists in that a beam of ultrasonic waves is thrown onto the surface of a cylindrical object being tested, said beam being refracted at an angle of 90 degrees. Next the times of passage for every type of waves are measured. On the basis of the calculated differences of the times of passage with a standard the absolute values of components of stresses are calculated. The method is applicable for non-destructive testing of properties and structure of materials and products.

  • Patent number: 4918375
Abstract: A meter is disclosed for measuring water content, particularly of soil. The probe (1) of the measuring device, fed with the needle electric pulse, is constituted of a set of waveguides connected parallely in the embranchment (2) with the microprocessor controller (10) of the electronic assemblies of the measuring device. Waveguides of the probe are installed in chosen layers of the material studied. The directly measured quantity is the sequence of time periods separating subsequent reflections of the electromagnetic wave propagating in the probe from the particular probe impedance discontinuties. The electromagnetic wave propagation velocity in a chosen layer of the medium is calculated on this basis, and therefrom the dielectric constant of the medium, and finally its moisture content upon which the dielectric constant depends.
