  • Patent number: 9121238
Abstract: A running tool for use in the insertion of an object such as a casing hanger into a subsea well includes a body and a hollow mandrel moveable within the body. Engagement dogs are supported within the body and are moveable to engage the object, the mandrel having a first part and a transition part, the transition part being shaped to cause out-ward movement of the dogs when the mandrel is in a given position within the body and to allow movement of the dogs for position of the mandrel spaced form the given position. The tool has an emergency release feature wherein the transition part is releasably attached to the first part by shear pins which shear in response to a sufficient increase in pressure within the mandrel to allow the transition part to separate from the first part.

  • Patent number: 9080699
Abstract: A connecting device for mating and connection on the sea bed of first and second pipelines having first and second pipe ends at the connection point, is shown. The connecting device includes a first connecting part retaining the first end; a second submersible connecting part retaining the second end and a connector arranged between the connecting parts for final connection between the pipe ends. A guiding device engages with a guiding structure during a lowering motion of the second connecting part towards the first connecting part and pivots the second connecting part into coarse alignment of the second pipe end in a direction towards the first pipe end such that the first and second pipelines are brought to align with each other. An adjacent ramp structure with abutment surfaces and a guiding mechanism cooperate with the second connecting part and contribute to fine alignment of the pipe ends.

  • Patent number: 8973451
Abstract: A subsea electric actuator comprises an electric motor and a telescopic drive connection (8) from the motor to a drive unit (10, 11, 12) which can be moved to and fro and converts rotary motion of the connection to linear motion of an actuating stem (5). A return spring (14) is operable on the drive unit to urge the actuating stem towards a datum state. An electromagnetic latch (15) is operative when set to maintain the drive unit in a predetermined position so as to decouple the action of the return spring whereby the stem can be advanced and retracted relative to the drive unit free from the action of the return spring. De-energization of the latch allows the return spring to operate on the drive unit to return the actuating stem to the datum state. Various forms of electromagnetic latch are described.
