  • Patent number: 7402323
Abstract: A skin treatment composition containing ionic calcium and a dermatologically acceptable water-soluble, water-miscible or water-based carrier is provided for treating a skin condition in a mammal, such as dry skin, dry scalp, a burn, sunburn, irritation or minor wound. The ionic calcium is preferably present as the water soluble calcium glycerophosphate salt. The composition may be present in a formulation such as bar soap, liquid soap, bath, lotion, cream, gel, or ointment, and may also be useful for stimulating more youthful skin cells and for improving the appearance of the skin. Methods for treating skin conditions and for accelerating cellular repair include topically applying to the skin an effective amount of ionic calcium, preferably as calcium glycerophosphate, and an ?-hydroxy acid such as lactic acid.

  • Publication number: 20080107743
Abstract: A skin treatment composition is provided which contains calcium glycerophosphate and a fatty acid source derived from an animal or a vegetable. The composition enhances skin cell proliferation and growth and repair of damage to skin cells. Methods for enhancing skin cell repair, proliferation, and growth and for enhancing ceramide synthesis involve topically applying to the skin a composition containing calcium glycerophosphate and a fatty acid source derived from an animal or a vegetable.

  • Patent number: 6447754
Abstract: Methods of freshening and reducing acidity in both the mouth and the throat of a mammal, such as a human, include taking into the mouth an aqueous solution of calcium glycerophosphate (CGP) in an amount effective to reduce the acidity, maintaining the solution in the mouth, and swallowing the aqueous solution in order to freshen and reduce acidity in both the mouth and the throat. The methods are convenient for use at any place and any time and do not have the inconveniences and limitations of conventional oral rinse or oral hygiene methods, such as the need for proximity to private or public plumbing facilities. Swallowable oral rinse compositions include an aqueous solution of CGP in an amount effective to freshen and reduce acidity in both the mouth and the throat of a mammal, such as a human, and at least one of a sweetening agent and a flavoring agent. The oral rinse compositions comprising CGP are preferably safe for ingestion even by children.

  • Publication number: 20020099037
Abstract: Glycerophosphates, particularly calcium glycerophosphate (CGP), have been found to mitigate certain abdominal-area physical problems including irritable bowel syndrome and urinary urgency. It is believed that calcium and glycerophosphate, taken orally, are introduced into the human and other animal system such that the glycerophosphate and/or calcium exert a damping, soothing, irritant-interdictive or antispasmodic action on the intestinal, urinary bladder and other smooth muscle organs. Using glycerophosphates, a method is provided for alleviating, palliating, and reducing the syndromes and conditions of discomfort resulting from a variety of diseases, including irritable bowel syndrome, interstitial cystitis, inflammatory bowel disease, fibromyalgia, urinary urgency, benign prostatic hypertrophy, vulvodynia and external genital pain.

  • Publication number: 20020064550
Abstract: Candy food, a piece of confectionery, which is a small, hard, chewy, or soft piece of food made from sugar and other ingredients or flavorings, such as chocolate, nuts, fruit, or peppermint is provided with enhanced refreshing properties of deacidifying the mouth and a stomach from the food or drink just consumed as well as reducing mouth, throat, esophageal, or other gastrointestinal irritation, together with reducing the incidence of dental caries and delivering absorbable calcium and phosphorus, wherein said candy food comprises combining a candy component with an effective amount of calcium glycerophosphate.

  • Patent number: 5972321
Abstract: Methods and compositions using calcium glycerophosphate for the deacidification of the skin and treatment of dermatological conditions, including body odor and dermatological discomfort, are provided. Body odors, such as odor associated with axillary, foot, facial, scalp, and anal-genital regions, may be treated by the application of calcium glycerophosphate to the affected area or to the materials in contact with the affected area. Dermatological discomfort, such as dermatological discomfort associated with acidic body fluids or with the application of cosmetics or therapeutic formulations, may also be treated by the application of calcium glycerophosphate. The calcium glycerophosphate may be used alone in powdered form, or in a liquid, solid or semi-solid vehicle, with or without the addition of other active ingredients and/or excipients.

  • Patent number: 5869119
Abstract: A method is provided for increasing the pH of acidic foods and beverages, to thereby reduce the tendency of such foodstuffs to cause heartburn and other esophageal and/or gastrointestinal distress to the consumer. An acidic food or beverage, such as coffee, is combined with an amount of calcium glycerophosphate (CGP) effective to raise the pH of the food or beverage, preferably by at least about 0.5 pH units, and more preferably to a pH of between about 5.4 and 7.0. Edible compositions including CGP, having a pHl of greater than about 5.4 are obtained. The CGP may also be added to acidic foods to remove the biting flavor that such foods have, and thus CGP serves as a flavor modulator, Packages comprising CGP inside a container, where the container may be easily opened to provide a single dose of CGP, are useful in the method and in forming the edible compositions.
