Patents Assigned to Akro Fireguard Products
  • Patent number: 6284343
Abstract: A fire resistant carpet backing formulation has five components of: a) a polyurethane dispersion; b) fire retardant components having at least a) ammonium polyphosphate, b) melamine, and c) a char former; c) solvents including water; d) filler, pigment and grinding aids; and e) surfactants. Preferred char formers are pentaerythritol and polysaccharides. The polyurethane dispersion is present in about 18-30% by weight, the fire retardant components of part (b) are present in about 39-61% by weight and the solvents of part (c) are present in about 9-25% by weight in the preferred embodiments. Nylon carpets made with this backing are fire retardant and meet the airline standards for fire safety.

  • Patent number: 5705006
Abstract: A fire resistant patch for aircraft composite cargo bay liners. The patch includes a base member consisting of at least one inner sheet of woven fiberglass with outer layers of flame resistant plastic. A scrim consisting of a fiberglass lattice netting having a periphery larger than that of the base member includes a pressure sensitive adhesive on a bottom side thereof is also provided. A layer of resin containing a flame retardant additive is applied to the bottom side of the base member, and the base member is applied to the liner to cover the damaged area thereof. The resin layer is allowed to partially cure to retard movement of the base member. Strips of flame resistant tape may be affixed over the base member to hold it in place instead of the partial curing. The scrim is then placed over the base member and tape on the liner using the pressure sensitive adhesive. The scrim is placed such that the periphery thereof extends beyond the entire periphery of the base member.

  • Patent number: 5654063
Abstract: A pressure-sensitive covering having improved fire resistance. The covering, at a minimum, includes a cured layer of an intumescence material having on an inner face a layer of pressure-sensitive adhesive, with the pressure-sensitive adhesive initially being covered by a standard release sheet. To improve the structural integrity of the cured layer before and after intumescence, there may be provided a scrim in the form of an open mesh within the cured layer. To further improve the structural integrity, a base member may be applied between the cured layer and pressure-sensitive adhesive layer. The cured layer may extend peripherally beyond the base member to improve fire resistance. To improve the durability of the covering or patch, there may be provided an overlay in the form of a plastic or foil laminate which extends over the cured resin layer and peripherally beyond the resin layer.

  • Patent number: 5596029
Abstract: This invention relates to an intumescent composition of the two-component type, comprising:(A) an amino-formaldehyde resin; and(B) an ester of phosphoric acid in admixture with an additive selected from the group consisting of a water scavenger, a filler, a pigment, a surfactant and a mixture thereof. This composition is suitable for use as a fire protection agent, particularly for the coating or impregnation, respectively, of fiberglass mats.
