Patent number: 7939158Abstract: A double walled reinforcement structure and method for making a double walled reinforcement structure having a plurality of longitudinally extending and nested structural members. Each structural member comprises a first cell having a first cross-section and a second cell having a second cross-section. The second cell is positioned within the first cell and the second cell contacts the first cell in a plurality of locations to provide mutual support of the cells in a manner increasing the tensile and compressive strength of the structure.Type: GrantFiled: April 23, 2007Date of Patent: May 10, 2011Assignee: Akron Rubber Development Laboratory, Inc.Inventor: Uday Prakash Karmarkar

Patent number: 7249497Abstract: A test fixture, test apparatus, and test method utilize a radially cut tire section that is mounted and sealed to a test jig in a airtight manner such that an air chamber is formed between an innerliner surface of the radial tire section and a recessed portion of the jig body such that the tire section may be pressurized on the test jig. A test surface is provided and either the test surface or the test jig is moveable relative to the other to the other to provide a dynamic load to the radial tire sections.Type: GrantFiled: July 21, 2004Date of Patent: July 31, 2007Assignee: Akron Rubber Development Laboratory, Inc.Inventors: C. Robert Samples, Blake E. Matthies, Walter B. Samples, Uday Prakash Karmarker

Publication number: 20070113671Abstract: A method of determining the crack growth life of a thin, polymeric material is provided. The method includes the steps of providing a sample of the thin, polymeric material having a predetermined length, width and thickness. A groove is then formed in the sample followed by the formation of a crack in the groove. The sample is then secured in a test apparatus that cycles the sample in a bending mode at a predetermined frequency. The crack length is measured in the sample after a predetermined number of cycles. The crack growth data is collected over a period of cycles to determine the crack growth life in the sample.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 10, 2006Publication date: May 24, 2007Applicant: AKRON RUBBER DEVELOPMENT LABORATORY, INC.Inventors: C. Samples, Timothy Samples, Walter Samples, Edward Wronkovich, Mark Centea, Blake Matthies

Publication number: 20030153390Abstract: A seal for a mass transit power transmission coupling. The seal is made at least partially of a polymeric material and configured such that the sealing surface moves radially outward under the centrifugal force created by rotation of the coupling beyond a predetermined speed. When the rotational speed of the coupling drops below the predetermined speed, the sealing surface moves radially inward and seals the coupling to prevent loss of the oil lubrication typically used on such couplings.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 12, 2003Publication date: August 14, 2003Applicant: Akron Rubber Development Laboratory, Inc.Inventor: C.
