  • Patent number: 7501085
Abstract: Apparatus and method for forming nanofibers and nonwoven webs formed of such nanofibers. The nanofibers are formed by changing the rheology in at least first and second flows of a liquid material such that the changed rheology of the first and second flows differs by an amount sufficient to produce a phase separation when the first and second flows are combined to define meltblown fibers. Each meltblown fiber has lengthwise first and second cross-sectional regions formed of the liquid material from the first and second flows, respectively. These regions are separated along a length of at least a majority of the meltblown fibers to form a plurality of nanofibers, which are collected together with any unsplit meltblown fibers to form the nonwoven web. The difference in the changed rheology of the flows may be produced by using two extruders with different barrel diameters to create differ shear histories for the two flows.

  • Patent number: 7476350
Abstract: Methods for making a nonwoven web on a collector traveling in a machine direction parallel to a length of the nonwoven web. The methods generally include forming a curtain of polymer filaments, mixing the curtain of polymer filaments with a flow of process air, depositing the curtain of polymer filaments on the collector to form the nonwoven web, and exhausting the process air through an air intake opening positioned below the collector. The method further comprises providing a substantially uniform air flow velocity across the air intake opening in a cross-machine direction perpendicular to the machine direction and adjusting an air flow velocity across the air intake opening in the machine direction to thereby define a ratio of the air flow velocity in the machine direction to the air flow velocity in the cross-machine direction.

  • Patent number: 7320581
Abstract: A stabilized filament drawing device for a meltspinning apparatus. The stabilized filament drawing device applies a high-velocity flow of air to attenuate the filaments, which are discharged from a device outlet in a discharge direction. The filament drawing device includes multiple inclined guides adjacent to the outlet that cause the high-velocity flow of air to deviate from the discharge direction by the Coanda effect. The filaments, which are entrained in the high-velocity process air, likewise deviate from the discharge direction. The guides are arranged such that spaces are absent between adjacent guides.

  • Patent number: 5040473
Abstract: In a quilting machine for quilting or stitching textile formations of cover-material webs and filler-material webs, the material webs to be stitched together are loosely withdrawn from stock rollers and sewn together along lengthwise edges or marginal portions of the material webs prior to entering a tenter device. Sewing the lengthwise edges or marginal portions includes simultaneously sewing on respective bands or ribbons which laterally extend beyond a workpiece to be quilted and serve for holding or accommodating the latter in the tenter device. It is thus possible to substantially provide the entire width of the cover-material webs and filler-material webs with a quilt pattern. In this manner, the length of waste cuttings of expensive cover material is substantially reduced.

  • Patent number: 4690176
Abstract: In a back rest arrangement on a weaving machine the back rest is preferably carried at each of its ends by one arm of a two-armed support frame or yoke which is pivotable about a stationary pivot axis on a machine frame. At least one of the arms of the support frame or yoke possesses a resilient portion or shank. A free end of the resilient shank is supported in a manner which is relatively rigid in relation to a pivoting motion of the support frame or yoke caused by the varying warp force acting on the back rest. The resilient shank is in operative association with a sensing probe for generating an electrical signal which is proportional to the deflection of the resilient shank. These measures render the arrangement suitable both for a so-called rigid or fixed back rest support as well as for a back rest support utilizing a rocking lever or rocker beam.

  • Patent number: 4628967
Abstract: A cloth draw-off roll is operatively connected via a regulation circuit with a main shaft of the weaving machine. The regulation circuit contains a controllable motor which is drivingly connected with the cloth draw-off roll. A regulation circuit arrangement connected forwardly of the controllable motor controls the weft thread density in the drawn-off cloth as a function of at least the rotational angular position of the main shaft of the weaving machine and contains a modulator operatively connected with the controllable motor. The modulator transforms control commands of a programming stage pre-programmable via an input device, into control signals for the controllable motor. A pulse transmitter at the main shaft transmits pulses indicative of the rotational angular position of the main shaft to the programming stage. A control circuit arrangement of the weaving machine transmits information signals or data indicative of the momentary functional state of the weaving machine to the programming stage.

  • Patent number: 4627368
Abstract: For the individual, group and/or repeat change of schiffli-shuttles in embroidering machines, the schiffli-shuttle embroidering stations are shifted from centralized to decentralized shuttle stroke and vice-versa. Rotating motion of the driving shafts is converted into reciprocating motion immediately before each individual shuttle. The reciprocating motion is transmitted to entrainment rods and drive rods. The entrainment rods are rotated according to the repeat configuration so that such drive and entrainment rods are disengaged. By actuating the drive and entrainment rods, the individual schiffli-shuttles each are engaged with and disengaged from the centralized shuttle stroke. The schiffli-thread is cut, the schiffli-shuttle is arrested and the upper slider is opened or closed for group change. The empty schiffli-shuttle is removed and a loaded schiffli-shuttle inserted.

  • Patent number: 4607666
Abstract: The apparatus for controlling the warp thread tension by positional displacement of a back rest on a loom includes a swivelling lever mechanism with a rocking lever which carries the shaft of the back rest and which rocking lever is controlled by a cam plate or disc. The apparatus also includes additional members effecting an additional warp thread tensioning by an additional positional displacement of the back rest during the start-up operation of the loom. The swivelling lever mechanism further includes a connecting element which serves for altering the relative distance between the cam plate or disc and the rocking lever carrying the shaft of the back rest. The relative length of the connecting element is variable by a temporarily operative actuating device. These measures permit a very simple and functionally reliable concept of the additional members of the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4594952
Abstract: A relatively great number of embroidering locations with the appropriate embroidering implements are arranged in at least one row. The embroidering implements are capable of being coupled to and uncoupled from the embroidering implement drive of the embroidering machine according to a predetermined repetition and color-change program by electromagnetic actuation devices. Therefore, according to the invention, a so-called group-switching of the embroidering locations, respectively of their electromagnets, is performed such that groups of a few embroidering locations, respectively their electromagnetic actuation devices, form switching groups or units. The electromagnetic actuation devices of each switching unit are connected in parallel at their input sides. An input conductor common to the switching unit connects them to the embroidering location control device.
