Patent number: 6242819Abstract: In a gas supply pipe section, an asynchronous motor generator unit is provided in a pipe section consisting of a single supply pipe upstream (at the high pressure side) and adjacent to a separating wall including nozzles for the decompression of the gas. The motor/generator unit includes a shaft which carries downstream (at the low pressure side) of a separating wall adjacent the nozzles at least one bladed turbine wheel which is of lightweight design and is driven by the gas flow. Means are provided for conducting away the electric energy generated during generator operation of the asynchronous motor and for feeding it into an energy supply net. Also, a control unit is provided which supplies a control signal to a safety valve disposed upstream of the asynchronous motor/generator unit for controlling the gas supply to the pipe section when the speed of the shaft exceeds a critical speed value.Type: GrantFiled: June 8, 1999Date of Patent: June 5, 2001Assignee: Aktiengesellschaft Kühnle, Kopp & KauschInventors: Rudolf Keiper, Thomas Müller, Theo Heintz

Patent number: 5333990Abstract: As a device for stabilizing the performance characteristics, a radial compressor comprises a circulation chamber (31) which makes pressure equalization between the impeller and the intake region possible. The intake region has an intake ring (10) which makes it possible to influence the flow in the intake region so that the performance characteristics be stabilized without substantial losses. The compressor may be adapted to customer's requirements by changing the intake ring.Type: GrantFiled: October 28, 1992Date of Patent: August 2, 1994Assignee: Aktiengesellschaft Kuhnle, Kopp & KauschInventors: Arno Foerster, Berthold Engels, Peter Hauck

Patent number: 5108256Abstract: An axial drag regulator for large-volume radial compressors includes a flow channel which transitions from a first cylinder section via a spherical nozzle-like section into a second cylinder section, which in turn has a barrel face which has an inclination of slightly above 0.degree. and up to 10.degree. with reference to a barrel face which is parallel to the axis of the cylinder sections. The guide vanes supported in the transition plane from the first cylinder section to the spherical section have an axis of rotation which divides the guide vane face at a ratio of 1/3:2/3. The ratio of the diameter of the first cylinder section to the diameter at the intake of the second cylinder section is between 1.1 and 1.4. The rotation of the guide vanes is carried out by an adjusting ring placed upon the outside of the casing, which actuates the rotatable axle shafts of the guide vanes by the intermediation of an articulated lever.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 1991Date of Patent: April 28, 1992Assignee: Aktiengesellschaft Kuhnle, Kopp & KauschInventors: Reinhold Herbst, Hans-Joachim Conrad

Patent number: 4780055Abstract: An axial torque governor for a turbo-supercharger for internal combustion engines has a flow channel which is composed of a cylindrical section and of a spherical section following thereupon, the spherical section merging into a second cylindrical section by way of a nozzle section. The radius of the spherical section is equal to the radius of the first cylindrical section. A plurality of guide vanes are each composed of essentially circular segments which cover the cross-section of the first cylindrical section given complete closure of the inlet passage, whereby the pivoting axes of the guide vanes respectively lie in the entry edge of the vanes.Type: GrantFiled: April 23, 1987Date of Patent: October 25, 1988Assignee: Aktiengesellschaft Kuhnle, Kopp & KauschInventors: Norbert Zloch, Christiane Roemuss

Patent number: 4770603Abstract: An exhaust gas turbocharger comprising a turbine with a guide apparatus comprising a ring of guide vanes arranged concentrically around a rotor axis and pivotable between two end limits. A first securing ring is arranged at the side of a bearing housing for mounting a first trunnion of each guide vane which is also mounted at the side of an oppositely disposed turbine housing. An adjusting mechanism is provided for adjusting one of the two end limits, and the guide vanes are freely pivotable under the influence of flow forces in the resulting predetemined angle adjustment range. The arrangement makes possible a compact construction which can be fabricated at reduced cost and easily assembled. This is achieved by an assembly containing the guide apparatus and the adjusting mechanism, and which includes a second securing ring arranged at the side of a turbine housing for mounting a second trunnion of each guide vane.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 1986Date of Patent: September 13, 1988Assignee: Aktiengesellschaft Kuhnle, Kopp & KauschInventors: Bertold Engels, Hans-Josef Hemer, Robert Lingenauber

Patent number: 4657480Abstract: A variable control mechanism for a turbine engine, in particular an exhaust gas turbine of a turbocharger, with a ring of guide blades arranged concentrically around a rotor axle and pivoting around pivot axles between end limits. The pivot axles are arranged in the forward areas associated with the inflow edges of the guide blades; one of the end limits being variable by means of an adjusting ring or the like. Clearance and impact losses are incurred depending on the prevailing setting of the guide blades. The invention provides a guide mechanism which can be constructed inexpensively and which reduces clearance and impact losses. The guide blades are arranged such that they can pivot freely within an angular setting range defined by the end limits. In case of a low load the guide blades pivot freely within the predetermined end limits, and with rising loads they abut against the variable end limit.Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 1984Date of Patent: April 14, 1987Assignee: Aktiengesellschaft Kuhnle, Kopp & KauschInventor: Horst Pfeil

Patent number: 4482304Abstract: In a compressor, in particular for exhaust gas turbochargers, the compressor housing rear wall of the compressor housing enclosing the compressor wheel is mounted on a stator housing for mounting the drive shaft. The compressor housing rear wall is divided into a central disk and at least one outer ring, at least one vibration-damping and structure-borne sound-damping separating ring surrounding the central disk peripherally connecting the two adjoining housing wall portions together. Between the separating ring and the housing wall portions one or two metal bushings are inserted in which the housing wall is held frictionally and/or in form-locking manner.Type: GrantFiled: September 17, 1981Date of Patent: November 13, 1984Assignee: Aktiengesellschaft Kuhnle, Kopp & KauschInventors: Helmut Brobeck, Hartmut Ludewig, Wolfgang Miribel, Helmut Stonner

Patent number: 4280797Abstract: Method of increasing supercharge pressure at low full-load speed of an engine and for simultaneously limiting the supercharge pressure to a given value at high full-load speed of the engine, includes passing a flow of exhaust gas through a bladed rotor of an exhaust-gas turbine inwardly from the outside through respective entrances and exits of the rotor blades which, in the region of the entrances thereof, are disposed in a plane wherein the axis of the turbine is also disposed, so that a difference in a respective circumferential component of the velocity of the exhaust-gas flow between the blade entrance and the blade exit, taken with respect to the circumferential component of the exhaust-gas flow velocity at the blade entrance, is at least as great at low speeds of the engine as at higher speeds thereof.Type: GrantFiled: June 13, 1978Date of Patent: July 28, 1981Assignee: Aktiengesellschaft Kuhnle, Kopp & KauschInventor: Horst Pfeil
