  • Patent number: 5559175
Abstract: Preparation of polyvinyl acetals which can form emulsifier- and surfactant-free aqueous dispersions and redispersible dry powders and contain copolymeric polyvinyl acetals with, in amounts sufficient to form a dispersion, comonomer units carrying sulfo salt groups which are derived from copolymeric polyvinyl alcohol (PVALs) which contained comonomer units carrying sulfonate groups in the salt form. The preparation is carried out by acetalization of the starting polyvinyl alcohols to be used with aldehydes or aldehyde acetals under acid-catalyzed acetalization conditions in an aqueous medium, emulsifier-free stable aqueous polyvinyl acetal dispersions being obtained, from which dry redispersible polyvinyl acetal powders can be obtained by spray drying or freeze drying. The polyvinyl acetals according to the invention can be plasticized by mixing in plasticizers both in their aqueous dispersion form and in the dry powder form.

  • Patent number: 5559845
Abstract: In a computed tomography apparatus having a gantry, on which a rotating anode x-ray tube and a radiation detector are disposed, the gantry being rotatable around a system axis and being tiltable relative to an axis extending perpendicularly to the system axis, the direction of rotation of the gantry is opposite the direction of rotation of the rotating anode in the x-ray tube. Gyroscopic forces acting on the bearing of the rotating anode are thereby at least partially cancelled, significantly reducing mechanical stress on the anode bearing.

  • Patent number: 5558781
Abstract: A process is disclosed for enzymatically degumming vegetable oil where the vegetable oil to be degummed is adjusted to a pH from 3 to 6 and is mixed with an aqueous enzyme solution, which contains one of the enzymes phospholipase A1, A2 or B. In a degumming reactor the enzymes are permitted to act on the oil at temperatures from 20.degree. to 90.degree. C. with stirring. Before or after a separation of the degummed oil a separation promoter or a solubilizer is added at temperatures from 20.degree. to 90.degree. C. to the liquid which has been withdrawn from the degumming reactor. A substantially sludgefree solution, which contains used enymes, is thus recovered and is recycled at least in part to a location preceding the degumming rector. The content of recycled used enzymes in the total amount of the enzymes dispersed in the oil is at least 10%.

  • Patent number: 5560004
Abstract: Administration order program modules (APM) are transferred into a job file memory (AS) of a network management central (NMZ) that can be connected to the communication systems (AS) via a local network (LAN). The job information and communication system information (asi, ksi) as well as a type of job information (ati) contained in an allocated updating message (ai) are entered into a job library file (ABR) provided in the network management central (NMZ), i.e. are logged. The transferring or logging into the job library file (ABR) is indicated to a job management routine (AVR). The respective administration order program module (APM) is communicated to the appertaining communication systems (KS) the job management routine (AVR) and is processed in these communication systems (KS).

  • Patent number: 5559890
Abstract: For the transmission of information, such as voice and data that it is necessary to keep secret, it is standard to encode the information at the transmitting side in the digital level and to in turn decode the encoded information at the receiving side after they have been transmitted. With respect to an economical exploitation of the transmission links, it is standard to combine several signals, or respectively, a plurality of signals on the basis of multiplexing methods. Such digital signal hierarchies are standardized according to the CCITT and, given higher hierarchy levels lead to bit rates of more than 100 Mbit. A solution to the extremely high expense for crypto equipment comprising integrated modules operating at such bit rates, multiplexing technology is employed which makes use of a plurality of encoders and a plurality of decoders that have low power consumption and that are composed of integrated modules constructed in accordance with CMOS technology.

  • Patent number: 5557923
Abstract: The invention concerns a method and device for removing particles, in particular soot particles, from exhaust gases produced by internal-combustion engines. The invention calls for the particles to be electrostatically charged by an electrode (4). The particles or particle agglomerates are trapped by a fine-mesh metal filter (5). The conducting material (5a), preferably a sintered ferritic metal, of which the filter (5) is made can also be used as a collecting electrode. A high voltage (6) is applied (7, 10) to the electrodes. At intervals, preferably at regular intervals, an electric current is passed (11, 12) through the filter (5), causing the filter material (5a) to heat up to a temperature above the ignition temperature of the particles. The preferred shape of the filter surface is a cylinder, truncated cone and/or cone.

  • Patent number: 5558128
Abstract: A plumbing fixture has a housing defining a chamber and having a bottom wall forming an upper surface and formed with at least one inlet port opening at the upper surface. A cartridge assembly in the chamber having a bottom surface directly confronting the bottom-wall upper surface is formed with an inlet port opening on the bottom surface in line with the bottom-wall inlet port. An inlet conduit having an end fitting extending through the inlet port and into the inlet port is formed with an outwardly open circumferential groove generally level with the surfaces. A split and spreadable snap ring fitted to the groove bears on the floor. One of the ports closely surrounds the snap ring and prevents it from spreading and a seal ring engages around the end fitting in the inlet port of the cartridge assembly.
