Patent number: 6048486Abstract: In a process for forming contours in aramide flat structures, in particular textile flat structures made from aramide fibers, contouring is performed by molding in a temperature range of 180-300.degree. C. and a press pressure range of 4-8 bar (400-800 kPa). The flat structures contoured by molding are suited in particular for the manufacture of antiballistic women's protective clothing as well as of antiballistic helmets. The effectiveness against penetration of bullets and splinters is not affected by the molding process.Type: GrantFiled: January 30, 1997Date of Patent: April 11, 2000Assignees: Triumph International AG, Akzo Nobel Faser AGInventors: Achim Fels, Jorg Wintersieg, Michael Mohr, Dieter Holzhauer, Franz Palzer

Patent number: 6034004Abstract: Protective clothing comprising one protective layer or a plurality of protective layers superimposed on and optionally joined to one another may contain textile flat structures made from antiballistically acting fibers, wherein the protective layers contain contoured shapes for fitting to body shapes imparted by a molding process that is conducted without the concurrent use of a resin. The protective clothing may also contain one or more cover layers. Bulges are formed in the protective layer and optionally the cover layers by the molding process in order to produce a better fit, particularly in the bust region. Protective clothing manufactured in this way offers an agreeable degree of comfort and is particularly intended for female police, military and other security personnel.Type: GrantFiled: January 30, 1997Date of Patent: March 7, 2000Assignees: Triumph International AG, Akzo Nobel Faser AGInventors: Achim Fels, Jorg Wintersieg, Michael Mohr, Dieter Holzhauer, Franz Palzer

Patent number: 5930989Abstract: A false twisted yarn is made from a lyocell multifilament yarn having a crimp shape coefficient defined by CE/N of 0.02-0.20, wherein CE is a crimp extension (%) and N is the number of crimps; a crimp extension of 0.7-7%; and a degree of swelling in water of 70% or less.Type: GrantFiled: April 3, 1998Date of Patent: August 3, 1999Assignees: Asahi Kasei Kogyo Kabushiki Kaisha, Akzo Nobel Faser AGInventors: Masanori Nakagawa, Hiroshi Uto

Patent number: 5888288Abstract: A method is described for forming a solution of cellulose in a tertiary amine oxide (such as N-methylmorpholine N-oxide) and a non-solvent for cellulose (such as water). The method involves the preparation of a mixture containing excess non-solvent, and removing the excess by heating the mixture to a temperature in excess of the boiling point of the non-solvent at a predetermined sub-atmospheric pressure, and feeding the heated mixture into the introduction zone of a mixing chamber at the predetermined sub-atmospheric pressure, so as to cause flash evaporation of some of the excess non-solvent. The mixture in the mixing chamber is then agitated by a rotor and transported through the mixing chamber whilst further evaporation of the non-solvent occurs. The cellulose solution thus formed is extracted from the mixing chamber, and the evaporated non-solvent withdrawn in cocurrent mode from the same end of the mixing chamber. Apparatus for carrying out the method is also described.Type: GrantFiled: November 10, 1997Date of Patent: March 30, 1999Assignees: Acordis Fibres (Holdings) Limited, Buss AG, Akzo Nobel Faser AGInventors: Michael Quigley, Roger James Rees Armistead, Rainer Naef, Andrew Ronchetti, Werner Nussberger, Katharine Anne Ronchetti

Patent number: 5545470Abstract: An anti-vandalism layer, especially for application in vehicle seats, vehicle roofs, vehicle tarpaulins, tents, inflatable structures, wall facing, and similar objects having an incisible exterior layer and subject to vandalism, includes of a knit fabric having at least in part cut-resistant fibers such as aromatic polyamide fibers, gel-spun polyethylene fibers, or glass fibers is disclosed. In at least one thread system, the knit fabric contains a wire present in a thread system projecting from the surface of the knit fabric such that during subsequent gluing of the anti-vandalism layer to, for example, a textile flat structure, gluing tends to occur on this thread system.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 1995Date of Patent: August 13, 1996Assignees: Akzo Nobel Faser AG, H.A.
