Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for treating a sandstone formation comprising introducing a fluid containing glutamic acid N,N-diacetic acid or a salt thereof (GLDA) and/or methylglycine N,N-diacetic acid or a salt thereof (MGDA) and having a pH of between 1 and 14 into the formation. The invention in addition relates to a fluid suitable for use in the above process containing 5-30 wt % of glutamic acid N,N-diacetic acid or a salt thereof (GLDA) and/or methylglycine N,N-diacetic acid or a salt thereof (MGDA), a corrosion inhibitor, a surfactant, and a mutual solvent.

Abstract: Organoclay compositions which comprise the reaction product of a smectite-type clay having an ion exchange capacity of at least 50 meq. wt. per 100 g. clay (active basis), and an alkoxylated quaternary ammonium compound having one or two alkoxylated chains containing 0-10 moles ethylene oxide and 3-15 moles of propylene or butylene oxide residues are useful thixotropic materials, especially for the preparation of aqueous systems.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to producing a smooth hard coating on a wood substrate. A layer of a foamed polymerized latex emulsion is applied on the surface of a wood substrate, such as an oriented strand board. The layer is dried, crushed and then cured to form the orating. If desired the cured coating may be provided with a post cure heat treatment to improve its hardness. The present invention is also directed to applying and drying the layer of the foamed polymerized latex emulsion on a mat of wood fibers or flakes and then crushing and curing the crushed layer and the mat into a hardboard having a smooth hard coating. The coating of the present invention is useful as a sealer coat on a wood substrate. By adding pigment to polymerized emulsion, the sealer coat can be used to provide a finish coat on the wood substrate.

Abstract: Solubilized metal (dialkylaminoalcoholate) compounds in organic solvent can serve as a source of metal values for metal oxide-containing superconductor compositions. Stable solutions, resistant to precipitation problems, can be formed by reaction of a dialkylaminoalkanol with a metal alkoxide followed by removal of by-product alkanol by vacuum distillation below the reflux temperature of the solution. Exemplary metals include copper, yttrium, barium, calcium, and bismuth, lanthanum and strontium.
Abstract: The present invention generally relates to a method for hydraulically backfilling empty mined salt cavities. The method comprises combining at least one pozzolanically active waste material with an effective amount of an alkaline earth metal in the form of an alkaline earth metal hydroxide or alkaline earth metal oxide and saturated brine to form a pozzolanic mixture, wherein the relative proportions of said pozzolanically active waste material, alkaline earth metal hydroxide or alkaline earth metal oxide and saturated brine are sufficient for reaction under atmospheric conditions in said salt cavity to form a stable, low porosity, load bearing pozzolanic cement; and hydraulically depositing said pozzolanic mixture in the empty salt cavity.
