Patents Assigned to Akzo Nobel Surface Chemistry AB
  • Patent number: 6482463
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of preparing a ground dry animal feed with a predetermined water content. According to the method, there is added to a dry animal feed mixture an emulsion of water emulsified in a hydrophobic component having a melting point of at least 15° C., suitably at least 20° C., in such an amount that the animal feed obtains the predetermined water content.

  • Patent number: 6245837
Abstract: The present invention relates to the use of a linear synthetic polymer having a molecular weight of from 5.103 to 1.107 to improve the strength, to reduce the fibrillation tendancy and to regulate the water absorption properties of a cellulose shaped body, derived from a dissolution of cellulose in a tertiary amine oxide. The linear synthetic polymer may be a polyalkylene, a polyalkylene glycol or a polyacrylate or polymetacrylate or its copolymers with other monomers.

  • Patent number: 6123996
Abstract: The present invention relates to an aqueous composition for coating, such as sizing or application of a layer of a coating slip, of cellulose-based two-dimensional products. The composition has improved properties at increased temperatures and at high shear rates. These properties are achieved by using as a thickening agent a cellulose ether which is substituted with hydroxyalkyl groups, such as hydroxyethyl and hydroxypropyl, and alkyl groups having 1-3 carbon atoms, and which has a cloud point in the range from 35 C. to 80 C.

  • Patent number: 6077887
Abstract: An aqueous composition is described, which is characterised in that it comprises comprises a water-soluble electrolyte complex containing a combination of a water-soluble, anionic polyelectrolyte with hydrophobic groups having 6-30 carbon atoms, and a water-soluble cationic polyelectrolyte with hydrophobic groups having 6-30 carbon atoms. The polyelectrolyte composition can be used as thickening agent in water-based systems, such as paints, coating slips, cosmetics or cleaning compositions, and as water-binding agent in sanitary products, e.g. nappies, sanitary towels and the like.

  • Patent number: 6068689
Abstract: The invention is a method of producing a viscose solution by______________________________________ a) irradiating .alpha.-cellulose with ionizing particles, b) mercerizing the irradiated .alpha.-cellulose with alkali, c) xanthating the irradiated mercerized .alpha.-cellulose with an amount less than 28% of carbon disulfide based on the weight of .alpha.-cellulose, and d) dissolving the xanthated .alpha.-cellulose in an aqueous alkali solution; ______________________________________and adding at least one surfactant before or after one or more steps of the method. The surfactant is chosen from the group consisting of a water soluble nonionic and a cationic surfactant, and it is added to the process in an amount of 0.02-5% by weight of the amount of .alpha.-cellulose. The viscose solution has suitable properties for the production of regenerated cellulose fibers.

  • Patent number: 6022407
Abstract: An aqueous concrete mixture having an air pore volume between 10 and 85%, preferably between 20 and 85%. When the aqueous concrete mixture is cured, a concrete having uniform density and high strength is obtained. This is achieved by including in the concrete mixture an aqueous, anionic surface-active compound containing two sulphonic acid groups of the general formula(R).sub.m --R.sub.1 --(SO.sub.3 M).sub.2 (1)wherein R is an aliphatic group having 4-20 carbon atoms, m is a number 1 or 2, the sum of the number of carbon atoms in the 1 or 2 R groups being 6-30, R.sub.1 is an aromatic group containing at least 2 aromatic rings and 10-20 carbon atoms, and M is a cation or hydrogen. The anionic compound has an air-entraining effect and improves the homogeneity of the concrete mixture.
