Abstract: Film structures, packages, films and methods of making the same are provided wherein the film structures have a desiccant material incorporated into at least one layer of the film structures and further wherein the film structures can comprise a material for making a peelable seal when the film structures are heat sealed to other film structures. The film structures are utilized for a package to hold a product that may be sensitive to the presence of moisture. The product may preferably be pharmaceutical products, nutraceutical products, or devices such as absorbable sutures or medical stents, although any moisture-sensitive product is contemplated by the present invention.

Abstract: There is described herein a method for evaluating the relative sustainability of a product, addressing the complete physical life cycle, the method comprising: defining a product within a product family wherein products perform equivalent functions; defining a set of environmental, social, and economic criteria; selecting a product from said product family as a baseline for comparison; and scoring said product compared to said baseline for each of said criteria.

Abstract: A film having a line of weakness and a method for making a film having a line of weakness are provided. The film has a barrier layer of extruded ethylene vinyl alcohol laminated on one side to a first layer of oriented polypropylene having a score line therein. The barrier layer is laminated on its second side to a second layer of polyethylene teraphthalate having a score line therein. The score line in the oriented polypropylene layer and the score line in the polyethylene teraphthalate layer lie in a plane substantially perpendicular to a plane of the film forming the line of weakness.

Abstract: Packaging materials comprising a sealant film having at least a skin layer comprising LDPE, a core layer comprising LDPE, MDPE, HDPE, or a blend of any two or all three of these, and a sealant layer comprising EVA copolymer are disclosed. At least one of the layers additionally comprises a stiffening agent such as calcium carbonate. The packaging material is especially useful in applications where good pouch formation and sealing characteristics are needed, such as in the packaging of process cheese products (e.g., loaf).

Abstract: An easy open, reclosable, flexible film package comprising a front wall, a back wall, a pair of opposing side gussets; a bottom; and a top; wherein the top is sealed; wherein the pair of opposing side gussets and the bottom wall connect the front wall to the back wall; wherein one side gusset has a score line extending from front to back; wherein when the score line is broken a spout is formed by pulling the side gusset below the score line.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a high release nip roll assembly comprising a nip roll with a covering comprising a high release material. The release properties of the nip roll material can permit intermittent contact without the coating adhering to the surface of the roller and wrapping the nip. Also disclosed is a high release nip roll belt is made of a high release material on the top and bottom surfaces of the belt. The belt can be positioned at each end of a nip roll so that areas of the nip roll typically vulnerable to molten thermoplastic material contact are protected by a belt. Also disclosed is a belt making apparatus. Also disclosed is a frame assembly for moving a belt longitudinally along a nip roll. Also disclosed is a rope guide assembly for threading a belt in relation to a nip roll and at least at least one belt roller.

Abstract: A multilayer film comprising, in order, a polyolefin or extrudable layer, a first layer comprising ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA), and a layer comprising polylactic acid (PLA). In a preferred embodiment, the multilayer film comprises, in order, a polyolefin layer, a first layer comprising ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA), a core layer comprising polylactic acid (PLA), a second layer comprising EVA, and a sealant layer. A method and system for forming the multilayer film is also disclosed.
