  • Patent number: 7412018
Abstract: In a wireless communication system which includes a synchronization signal generator which generates a synchronization sequence, an RF transmitter which transmits the synchronization signal, and one or more receiver that receives the signal, where the synchronization sequence employs M PN codes of the same length that are repeated in a pseudo-random fashion for N code periods. Each receiver incorporates M filters matched to the M PN codes whose outputs are post detection combined in a manner consistent with the pseudo-random code transmission sequence to provide signal detection and synchronization. In another aspect, the synchronization sequence employs M time-shifted versions of a PN code that are repeated in a pseudo-random fashion for N code periods and each receiver incorporates a filter matched to the unshifted PN code and whose output samples are post detection combined in a manner consistent with the pseudo-random code transmission sequence to provide signal detection and synchronization.

  • Patent number: 7126949
Abstract: A header value or label, referred to herein as a source station identification (SSID), is added to an encapsulated packet header, such as by adding the SSID as a label to the bottom of a stack of MPLS labels. The SSID comprises a unique identifier that identifies the PE that originated the packet. In some embodiments, the IP address of the originating PE may be used as the SSID for that PE. The PE receiving this packet can then associate the source Ethernet MAC address of received TLS traffic, e.g., with the originating PE. Given the SSID of the originating PE, the receiving PE is able to determine which LSP to use to send Ethernet traffic to the station with the learned MAC address.

  • Patent number: 7079853
Abstract: A system and method for application location register routing at a signal transfer point (26) are provided. The signal transfer point (26) includes processor clusters (64, 66, 68) and databases (236, 238) for processing queries including global title translation, local number portability, and application location register routing. A query message is received by the signal transfer point (26), a first database residing in the signal transfer point (26) is accessed to determine the location of a second database (238) also residing in the signal transfer point for processing the query message. The second database (238) is then accessed to obtain the network address of a home location register or short message service center, which is then used to deliver the query message to the network node specified by the network address.

  • Patent number: 7006433
Abstract: A system and method for transporting IN/AIN signaling (e.g., SS7 signaling) over an IP-based network using Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP), wherein a peer-to-peer protocol adaptation (PPA) structure is provided at a signaling node. The PPA structure includes an interworking functionality between an MTP3 layer and the SCTP messaging, and operates to provide a symmetrical MTP2 adaptation interface therebetween. The PPA interface functionality facilitates the implementation of network management capabilities included in the MTP3 layer such that the advantageous features of SS7 signaling are retained in the SCTP transport. The MTP2 adaptation interface functionality is processed locally with respect to the signaling node, rather than backhauling the associated signaling to an external node via an IP connection.

  • Patent number: 7005938
Abstract: A line card provides terminating resistors for a bus or traces on a backplane. The line card terminations are activated (connected to ground) by a crossbar switch that is set according to programming (software/firmware/flash memory stored instructions) maintained on the line card to set the state of the resistive terminations. The programming maintained on the line card may be downloaded to the card into nonvolatile storage. The decision to utilize a specific line card to terminate or leave the bus unterminated is made by a control unit that sends command messages to the line card. A polling device interrogates each line card and sets the physically last card on the bus as a terminating card. The command messages are in ADSL Provisioning Message format and transmitted to each line card via a CPU Cell Data Link (CCDL).

  • Patent number: 6965595
Abstract: The time slot interchange capabilities of modern digital loop carriers are utilized to provide direct connectivity from the calling modem's line to an internet access modem bank through the digital loop carrier, thereby bypassing the local central end office. A call which is to a telephone number of an internet access provider's modem is routed to a bypass initiator. If the bypass initiator detects that the call is from a number which is serviced by a digital loop carrier having a local central end office bypass capability, then the bypass initiator issues a bypass command. The digital loop carrier establishes the bypass connection, but does not break the signaling connection on the initial call which was routed from the digital loop carrier through the local central end office to the bypass initiator. Once the bypass connection has been established, the bypass initiator sends a disconnect signal through the signaling connection of the initial call.

  • Patent number: 6868233
Abstract: A wavelength agile optical transponder system and method for testing a fiber optic link formed of a single fiber. An optical source coupled to the optic link provides a signal at a first wavelength which is propagated towards a wavelength division multiplex (WDM) coupler disposed on the optic link. Upon receiving the optical signal by a receiver, an optical cross-connect arrangement is utilized for transmitting the optical signal after translating its wavelength into a second wavelength. By evaluating the optical signal in the optical loop-back thus effectuated, the path integrity of the optic link is determined without having to know the wavelength of the incident signal or direction of transmission.

  • Patent number: 6847702
Abstract: Disclosed are systems and methods for transferring data between servers and subscribers. A central office employs DSL circuit cards. Each DSL circuit card encodes a digital signal using a discreet multitone technology (DMT) scheme, and sends an encoded signal on a subscriber line. A disclosed architecture allows the functions of a faulty DSL circuit card to be assumed by another card, without substantial disruption of subscriber service. Further, the architecture allows the faulty DSL to be physically replaced, with minimal disruption of subscriber service. Another aspect of the architecture allows for the testing of subscriber lines.

  • Patent number: 6795393
Abstract: An apparatus and a method for cross connect matrices includes originating, center and terminating stages in both a main portion and a back-up portion that allows center stages to be switched without causing a framing error. The signal from the main portion is transmitted through both the back-up and main portions of the cross connect matrices such that a terminating line card receives a frame aligned signal from the main and back portions. The terminating line card then switches its output to be the signal produced by the back-up portion with no framing error. In the main portion, the center stage may be switched. After the center stage is switched, the terminating line card can switch again to output the signal from the main portion.

  • Patent number: 6754206
Abstract: A distributed telecommunications switching subsystem (100) receives and distributes data packets passed between a plurality of switching subsystems or channel banks (102, 104, 106) and a data packet switch (110). Each channel bank (102) has a stored list of addresses. When a channel bank (102) receives a data packet, it compares the address of the data packet to its stored list of addresses, and transmits the data packet to another channel bank (104) if the address of the data packet does not correspond to any of the addresses in its stored list of addresses. The data packet is passed on until it reaches a channel bank (106) with a matching address or else it is appropriately handled by a last channel bank (106) in the chain. If the address of data packet matches an address in its stored list of addresses, the channel bank (102) passes the data packet through a subscriber interface card (120) to a customer premises equipment unit (108) corresponding to the address of the data packet.
