Abstract: A method and apparatus for fault analysis and fault isolation in a system of networked processors by using a central event correlation function and logical fault signature to provide for fault isolation of failed processing elements is presented. This central event correlation method uses asynchronous events from multiple input sources of same and different technologies and time-based fault correlation and ageing to match unique fault signatures and determine levels of fault recovery escalation over time. This mechanism uses an event driven recovery table to recognize a unique fault signature, count and age faults, provide fault threshold based recovery and generate events as needed to drive recovery escalation.

Abstract: In a passive optical network, an upstream transmission rate from an ONT to an OLT can be optimized by matching a transmission scheme for a channel to the upstream transmission characteristics of the channel. An FEC coding can be made channel dependent so that channels with low error rates can use minimal protection, and therefore minimal overhead, while channels with high input bit error rates can use the level of FEC coding required to produce a desired output bit error rate.
Abstract: The present invention demonstrates how network-coding can be applied to a deterministic broadcast approach, resulting in significant reductions in the number of transmissions in the network. We propose two algorithms, that rely only on local two-hop topology information and make extensive use of opportunistic listening to reduce the number of transmissions: 1) a simple XOR-based coding algorithm and 2) a Reed-Solomon based coding algorithm that determines the optimal coding gain achievable for a coding algorithm that relies only on local information.

Abstract: A voice communication controller (e.g., private branch exchange (PBX)) is described herein which can automatically enable an outbound dual tone multi-frequency (DTMF) feature for one of it's extensions that is attached to a phone which belongs to a user while that user is or is likely to be participating in a session with an external DTMF communication system (e.g., a conference/collaboration bridge, an interactive voice response (IVR) system, or a voice mail system). This is desirable because if the user presses button(s) on their phone then the voice communication controller which has enabled the outbound DTMF feature will not attempt to process the corresponding DTMF digit(s) but instead will automatically transfer the corresponding DTMF signal(s) to the external DTMF communication system.

Abstract: One example embodiment of the present invention discloses a method of delivering content from a base station of a wireless network to a mobile station including receiving a request for content from a mobile station, accessing the requested content from content stored in association with the base station, and transmitting the requested content to the mobile station.
Abstract: A method for supporting communication between communication devices (102, 104, 106) having inconsistent protocols, such as may result from protocol changes or upgrades. Protocol registers (302, 304) maintained in association with the communication devices contain respective first and second protocols (e.g., current and previous protocols) of the communication devices. A sending (or receiving) device, upon being upgraded from protocol C to N, updates (206) its protocol register to indicate N as the current protocol and C as the previous protocol. The device initially attempts to send (222) a message (or attempts 212 to recognize a message) using its current protocol N and, if that fails, the device sends (230) (or attempts 216 to recognize the message) using its previous protocol C.

Abstract: In a sensor system, an edge element receives data from at least one mobile sensor, and sends the data which may be preprocessed by the edge element to a server for further processing. The edge element may communicate to the mobile sensor to change a value of a run-time parameter in the mobile sensor to affect its operation. The edge element may also cause the mobile sensor to upgrade its firmware. When the mobile sensor is about to leave communication coverage of the edge element, the latter may initiate a peer-to-peer handover of the control and administration of the mobile sensor to another edge element in the sensor system.
