Abstract: In one embodiment, a telecommunication device for Internet-based conference calling with one or more similar telecommunication devices. The telecommunication device is used by a plurality of co-located participants, each participant having an individually identifiable microphone. The telecommunication device accesses a database correlating each individually identifiable microphone to participant ID and information. During the conference-call setup, the similar telecommunication devices exchange participant IDs and corresponding information. The conference-call audio content is then exchanged using RTP packets, where the telecommunication devices generate RTP packets containing the participant IDs of participants contributing to the content of each RTP packet. Receiving telecommunication devices then display corresponding participant information when playing the audio content of received RTP packets to identify current speakers.

  • Publication number: 20100177774
Abstract: The invention is directed to providing NDP mediation over an IP interworking VLL. ICMPv6 Neighbor Discovery and Inverse Neighbor Discovery messages are intercepted by provider edge (PE) devices to learn both IPv6 interface addresses and link-layer addresses of customer edge (CE) devices before forwarding the messages to the CE devices, and in some cases after altering the messages to make them more meaningful to the receiving CE devices. In this manner, the CE device interface addresses do not need to be communicated over the LDP control link, as in IPv4 ARP Mediation.

  • Patent number: 7756705
Abstract: A method and apparatus for performing multiple descriptive source coding in which a plurality of homogeneous encoders are advantageously employed in combination with a corresponding plurality of advantageously substantially identical decoders. In particular, diversity is provided to the multiple encoders by modifying the quantization process in at least one of the encoders such that the modified quantization process is based at least on a quantization error resulting from the quantization process of another one of the encoders. In this manner, diversity among the multiple bit streams is obtained, and in particular, the quality of a reconstructed signal based on a combination of multiple decoded bit streams at the receiver is advantageously superior to that based on any one of the decoded bit streams. In accordance with a first illustrative embodiment of the present invention, two Pulse Code Modulation (PCM) coders are employed.

  • Patent number: 7756534
Abstract: Location-based services are provided in a communication system comprising at least a portion of at least one wireless network. One aspect of the invention relates to generation of user movement statistics that may be utilized to facilitate the development of targeted marketing campaigns or other types of message delivery. In this aspect, the user movement statistics are generated based on location and profile information for mobile user devices, and delivery of at least one message to a given one of the mobile user devices is controlled based on the user movement statistics. The user movement statistics may comprise, for example, information sufficient to determine approximately how many users having particular designated characteristics are likely to be in a given location at a given time, and may be utilized to determine prices charged for delivery of messages to the mobile user devices.

  • Patent number: 7756998
Abstract: A method of managing virtual routing forwarding (VRF) tables at a provider edge PE router of a L3 virtual private network (VPN) is provided. An import route target (ImpRT) tree is maintained at the PE router, which keeps the association between all ImpRT attributes currently configured on said PE router and the virtual routing table VRF at that router. When an ImpRT attribute is configured on a VRF table, the PE router first searches the tree to identify a local VRF table that contains a route(s) with that ImpRT attribute. If this information is available locally, the VRF is updated by copying the route information, and there is no need to do a route refresh. When an ImpRT is deleted from a VRF, a route refresh is avoided by parsing all the routes in the VRF and removing the routes that no longer have a matching route target.

  • Patent number: 7756122
Abstract: A Global Roaming Application Server is adapted to act as an intermediary between all Internet Protocol (IP)-based network(s) and non-IP-based network(s), such as a circuit-switched landline network, an ANSI-41 network, wireless LAN network, a Global System for Mobile Communications network or Universal Mobile Telecommunications System network. In a first or forward direction, the Application Server enables a user in a non-IP network to be located in accordance with user profiles at the request of another user who has chosen to send a message via an all-IP based network. After the user in the non-IP network is so located, the Application Server enables a signaling link to be created between the two users. The Application Server may also be used to enable a signaling link when a message is sent in a second, or reverse direction.

  • Patent number: 7756050
Abstract: A method and system for providing Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) in a wireless communications system using a Packet Data Conversion Protocol (PDCP) with enhanced functionality that allows sub-packets to be processed for transmission over different Radio Bearers (RB) with unequal or different levels of error protection and/or error detection based on perceptual importance of the bits in the sub-packets. The enhanced PDCP being operable to partition a packet into a plurality of sub-packets such that different levels of error protection and/or error detection may be applied to the packet. An overall gain in system capacity can be expected due to transmit power savings provided via unequal error detection and error protection.

  • Patent number: 7757283
Abstract: This method and system for detecting abnormal traffic in a communications network is based on classifying the traffic in risk and status categories and maintaining a service status table with this information for each service at a respective node. The risk categories are initially established based on known software vulnerabilities recognized for the respective service. An early notifier enables further processing of services suspected of malware propagation. Status categories enable segregating the traffic with a “under attack status” from the “non under attack” status, so that the intrusion detection system at the respective node only processes the “under attack” traffic. In this way, the time and amount of processing performed by the intrusion detection system is considerably reduced.

  • Patent number: 7756518
Abstract: Provided is a method and system for minimizing call setup delay in a network. The system includes a central node that may be connected to multiple home location registers (HLRs) and a number portability database (NPDB). The central node may also be associated with two tables. The first table includes mobile station identifiers and associated location routing numbers (LRNs), and the second table includes mobile station identifiers and associated home location registers (HLRs). The method searches the first and second tables for a mobile station identifier that matches a mobile station identifier associated with a call. If a match is found, the method uses the associated LRN or HLR to continue with the call setup or to obtain further information. If no match is found, the method sends a query to the NPDB. The method may also dynamically update the first and second tables as current information is obtained.
