Abstract: A mobile radio system that permits broadband radio transmission in which a mobile station (MS) can be assigned a plurality of subscriber channels (TCH) of different widths. To accomplish this, concentrators (SMX) are connected to the base stations (BS, BS') of the mobile radio system and to the mobile station (MS). These concentrators (SMX) operate in an asynchronous transfer mode to combine a plurality of subscriber channels (TCH) into one transmit channel (DL) by statistical time-division multiplexing and to separate a receive channel (UL) into the plurality of subscriber channels (TCH) by statistical time-division demultiplexing. This provides a broadband wireless link between the mobile station and the base stations which is characterized by a flexible number of subscriber channels that can have different widths.
Abstract: A portable telephone has a keypad, a screen and a plate under the keypad and including some of the electronic circuits of the telephone and contacts actuated by keys of the keypad to operate the telephone. An identity card is inserted in a cavity under the plate so as to place it in contact with an identity card connector located under the "navigator" key of the keypad on the opposite side of the plate to the identity card. The connections between the connector and the identity card are made by contacts carried by the connector through an opening in the plate. This saves space and reduces the thickness of the telephone.
Abstract: To optimize the amplification in a device for extracting channels from a wavelength division multiplex, the following steps are carried out in succession: a first amplification step with a first gain, a wavelength selection step, and a second amplification step with a second gain. The first and second gains respectively confer upon the output optical signal a fixed signal to noise ratio and a particular optical power. Applications include optical transmission networks.
Abstract: A method for generating billing information for a call in a telecommunications network is disclosed. In one embodiment, a call initiation stimulus is received at a service switching system (112). The service switching system (112) notifies a service control system (104) of the call initiation stimulus. The service control system (104) generates a first TCAP connect message with a destination routing address portion having a billing information tag and customer billing information. The first TCAP connect message is transmitted to the service switching system (112), which transmits a response message to the service control system (104). The service control system (104) transmits a second TCAP connect message to the service switching system (112) in response to the response message. The service switching system (112) generates a billing record in response to the first TCAP connect message.

Abstract: A terminal of a cellular mobile radio system cooperates with a user card and is able to operate in at least two separate operating modes, namely a normal mode in which it can be used with any user card and a locked mode in which it can be used only with the user card to which it is locked, the latter constituting a linked user card. To make use of the terminal more secure, first locking data is stored in a memory area of the linked user card and, in the locked mode, the method includes a phase of authentication by the terminal of the user card with which it is cooperating.

Abstract: An electronic work environment for a data processing system includes documentation modules which execute on the hardware elements of the system. The documentation modules exchange data between the software elements and hardware elements of the data processing system to produce interaction between the documentation modules and the data processing system. A common user interface module displays the results of the interaction between the software and hardware elements and the documentation modules. Accordingly, the documentation becomes part of the operating environment of the data processing system. The documentation modules are generalized documentation modules including online documentation for every possible configuration of the hardware and software elements of the data processing system.

Abstract: A device for testing telecommunication terminals for telecommunication systems, in particular mobile radio systems, of the multiple access type, using a particular multiplex structure, transmits test information between the test device and a plurality of terminals under test by multiplexing in accordance with this multiplex structure.
Abstract: The invention relates to a Kerr type optical modulator and to an all-optical clock recovery circuit operating by active mode locking of a fiber loop laser including such a modulator. Operation is independent of the polarization of the signals presented to the signal input, at wavelength .lambda..sub.s. The wavelength of the clock signal delivered by the clock recovery circuit is .lambda..sub.c. The modulator comprises an even number of segments, and in a preferred embodiment four segments of polarizationmaintaining fiber, with the segments being of equivalent optical lengths, and interconnected by three splices at three locations. At the first and third splices, the neutral propagation axes of the polarization-maintaining fiber are turned through 90.degree..
Abstract: An automatic impedance matching front end interface circuit includes a processor and a plurality of variable resistors, the resistances of which are adjustable by the processor to achieve impedance matching such that the upstream and downstream signals flow in desired directions. A method of adjusting the resistances of the variable resistors includes measuring two voltages at different locations along a downstream transmission line, obtaining a measured voltage ratio, comparing the measured ratio to an optimal ratio, and adjusting the resistances of the variable resistors to cause the measured ratio to approach the optimal ratio.
Abstract: Optical fiber cable components such as buffer tubes, filler rods, or jackets are produced using a thermoplastic polyolefin characterized by a high melt flow index. The use of material with a high melt flow index versus conventional "extrusion grade" materials which are characterized by a low melt flow index results in substantial improvements in buffer tube crystallinity and crystallization rates, improved buffer tube crush resistance, reduced post extrusion shrinkage, improved gel compatibility, and improved excess fiber length control. The advantages of using materials with a high melt flow index are most evident when processing thermoplastic materials such as nucleated copolymers of ethylene and propylene at high line speeds (shear rates) of over 50M/min.

Abstract: When telecommunications systems with analog and digital circuit technology are interconnected, the two-wire/four-wire transitions are achieved with hybrid circuits in which mismatches cannot be avoided. They result in signal reflections in the form of interfering echoes which can considerably reduce speech intelligibility. The known methods of echo compensation for hands-free facilities are not suitable for compensating line echoes, since the signal level and the delay times of lines can be very different. A compander (3.7) is used to suppress the effect of line echoes, whose transmission characteristic, in addition to being controlled by a coupling factor between the transmit path and the receive path, and by a control signal determined by the noise level, is also controlled in the invention with the speech level that is received from the distant subscriber.

Abstract: For recognizing information conveyed by a received signal, represented by convention by possible elementary forms of the signal to be transmitted, a device includes a correlator for establishing a correlation between the received signal and various possible forms of signal, in accordance with the convention. A neural network using correlation coefficients obtained from the correlator is trained by application to its input of correlation coefficients corresponding to a received signal conveying given information whilst imposing the given information at its output. The network supplies recognized information.

Abstract: A method for interleaving data frames, a forward error correcting device and a modulator including such a device, wherein each data frame to be interleaved is divided into a plurality of words, each containing the same amount of data bytes. An overhead extension is added to the words and additionally, the resulting codewords are applied to an interleave buffer (IB) to be written in matrix-shaped structure of memory cells included in the interleave buffer (IB). This matrix-shaped structure is filled column by column in such a way that each codeword occupies another column. Data bytes are read out of the matrix-shaped structure row by row, as a result of which the data frames are interleaved.
