  • Patent number: 4195882
Abstract: An adjustable and convertible piece of furniture for accommodating single or multiple persons in multipositions. The piece may comprise a chair, couch, bed, or recreational support of novel configuration facilitating face to face conversation among several persons sitting, lounging, game playing, TV viewing, snacking, sleeping, or participating in other recreation.A unitary frame supports a cushioned horizontal surface above the floor or ground on a plurality of legs. The frame carries inner and outer tracks depending from its under side, therefrom, with the tracks being outboard of the legs, in spaced apart relation to each other. The tracks support a plurality of backrests, independently positionable along the border of the frame, via outwardly protruding cantilever means extending upwardly as vertical supporting means, in turn carrying horizontal backrest members at levels above the elevation of the cushioned surface. The space above the cushioned surface is otherwise unobstructed.

  • Patent number: 4123102
Abstract: A rocker-type chair is used which is normally unbalanced in a rearwardly reclining direction. A rear support frame has its lower and rearward end in engagement with the floor while its upper and forward end is pivotally secured to the rearward side of the chair. The rear support frame is forcibly pivotally rotated relative to the chair in order to selectively vary the extent to which the chair reclines rearwardly. As the pivoting action takes place, the main part of the chair turns upon its rocker-like members. The lower and rearward end of the rear support frame slides or rolls horizontally along the floor surface. The weight of the occupant of the chair is at all times divided between two forward support points which are provided by the rocker-like members, and a rear support point which is provided by the rear support frame.

  • Patent number: 4092041
Abstract: A reclining chair having seatrest, footrest, and backrest which are adjustable to either a sit-up or a lie-down position or any selected intermediate position, with the entire chair being also adjustable to recline rearwardly at a selected angle. All of the adjustments can be made manually by the occupant while reclining in the chair. The mechanism also includes compensating means to avoid or minimize any influence by a selected adjustment upon a non-selected adjustment. None of the adjustments results in any significant raising or lowering relative to the floor surface of the combined center of gravity of the chair and its occupant, and therefore, in reversing any of the adjustments the occupant is spared the physical work that would be involved in raising the center of gravity.
