Patent number: 6004255Abstract: In a decanter centrifuge, which comprises an outer drum (1) and an inner drum (5) concentric therewith, the two drums being rotatable at different speeds around a common center axis, the inner drum (5) carries several blades (6, 7) arranged to convey axially in the outer drum (1) sludge having settled on the inside of the drum. The blades (6, 7) are placed in parallel blade rows, each of which extends in a certain pitch along a first helical line (9, 10) around at least part of the center-axis. Each one of the blades extends along a second helical line (29c), which has a pitch opposite the pitch of the first helical line (9, 10). The distance between the rows of blades is substantially larger than the distance between two adjacent blades in one and the same row. Possibly, the inner drum may be provided with only a single row of blades.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 1998Date of Patent: December 21, 1999Assignee: Alfa Laval Separation ABInventor: Bent Madsen

Patent number: 5976357Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for purification of oil which is contaminated with particles of random density and/or water. A collection polymer or polymer mixture which is insoluble in oil and liquid at room temperature and which has a density which is higher than the oil is added to and mixed with the contaminated oil. The collection polymer and the oil are separated by gravity with or without centrifugation such that the oil forms a top phase and the collection polymer or polymer mixture and the main part of the contaminants form a bottom phase. The bottom phase with the collection polymer and the contaminants is removed.Type: GrantFiled: October 24, 1997Date of Patent: November 2, 1999Assignee: Alfa Laval Separation ABInventors: Gunnar Strom, Bjorn Malarstig

Patent number: 5733239Abstract: In order to free a liquid form a substance dispersed therein and having a larger density than the liquid a centrifuge rotor is used having a stack of conical separation discs. Elongated spacing members (11a, 11b) in the spaces between the separation discs are formed such that the liquid flow in the disc interspaces is conducted in a certain way. Patent number: 5518494Abstract: A centrifugal separator has a rotor, which forms an inlet chamber, a separation chamber (5) and an outlet chamber (10), in which a liquid, separated during operation, forms a rotating liquid body with a radially inwardly directed free liquid surface. Patent number: 5160309Abstract: In a centrifugal separator there is formed within the rotor a separating chamber (7) and a central chamber (26), which latter communicates with a peripheral part of the separating chamber through a channel (19a, 19b). The part (19a) of the channel situated closest to the central chamber (26) extends substantially parallel with the rotor axis, whereas the other channel part (19b) forms an angle with the rotor axis.
