  • Patent number: 5195811
Abstract: There is suggested a circuit configuration for an electronically controlled anti-lock brake system, wherein upon the commencement of braking pressure control pressure fluid is pumped out of a supply reservoir (13) into the pressure chambers 7, 8) of the tandem master cylinder (1) which closes the inlet valves (14 to 17) of all wheels at the onset of the control action. It regulates the braking pressure on the imminently locking wheels by opening and closing the inlet valves and outlet valves (14 to 17 and 22 to 25) in a known fashion, while on the non-locking wheels it slowly adapts the braking pressure to the pressure prevailing in the tandem master cylinder (1) by way of pulsewise actuation at a predefinable pulse-pause ratio, that means opening and closing of the inlet valves (14 to 17).

  • Patent number: 5195809
Abstract: An anti-slip brake, traction slip control (TSC) brake system is described for normally isolating the master cylinder from the output of a pump activated during anti slip brake control. The brake line is furnished with a non-return valve prevents pump pressure from being communicated to the master cylinder except when a high-pressure accumulator is fully charged by the pump, causing the non-return valve to be opened. A self priming pump is utilized having a pump chamber initially defining a flow path from the master cylinder to the brake line. The wheel brakes communicate via an outlet valve and a return line with the pump chamber, while an interposed second suction valve is provided in the return line, having an opening pressure in excess of 1 bar. Brake shunt lines connect each of the wheel brakes with the master brake cylinder, via a TSC-valve, closed during traction slip control.

  • Patent number: 5195806
Abstract: A rear brake pressure proportioning control device is disclosed, with a regulating piston (7) and with a valve closing member (9) being supported within a slidable control piston (8), the movement of the control piston interrupted at a predetermined rate of vehicle deceleration. A restriction (32) between the inlet and inlet chamber within which the control piston is disposed prevents a high rate of brake pressure increase from causing too high a rear brake pressure. A multiple-stage restrictor (26) is positioned in the inlet in order to prevent a very high rate of pressure increase of the brake pressure resulting in too low a rear brake pressure.

  • Patent number: 5195419
Abstract: There is presented a method for assembling a tandem master cylinder and a vacuum brake power booster of a hydraulic brake system for automotive vehicles. Air is injected via the pressure connections (19, 36) of the pressure chambers (11, 18) associated with the pistons (2, 3). Simultaneously, the pistons (2, 3) are moved in the direction away from the brake pedal. The pressure increase in the pressure chamber (18) is measured during the movement of the pistons (2, 3) and thus during the movement of the central valve (14) accommodated in the floating piston (3). The air pressure in chamber (18) will rise as soon as the closing member (15) of the central valve (14) has moved to sit on the valve seat (16) and the central valve is closed thereby. A trigger point which determines a measured distance on the abscissa of the diagram is fixed in the curve of the diagram "Pressures as a function of the travel of the central valve", the said curve indicating the pressure increase.

  • Patent number: 5195810
Abstract: An anti-lock hydraulic brake system is described having a bypass line to a pump used to evacuate and pressurize the wheel brakes during antilock control. A pressure control valve in the bypass line regulates the pressure in the pressure line to the master cylinder pressure level. A low pressure accumulator absorbs recirculated fluid flow from the bypass line. A pressure operated valve opens only when a difference in pressure between the master cylinder pressure and the pump outlet pressure line pressure develops. The consequence is that a non-return valve a and pressure operated valve in combination bring about isolation of the master cylinder during antilock control to prevent brake pedal reaction to pump pressure developed during a braking pressure control operation. When the accumulator is fully charged, the bypass line is closed by means of a shut-off valve operated by an accumulator piston so that the pump delivers fluid via the pressure valve (18) back into the master cylinder (1).

  • Patent number: 5193652
Abstract: A disc brake for automotive vehicles in which the brake disc is straddled radially from the inside by a fist-shaped brake housing. The supporting and guide elements of the housing consist of a supporting bearing (34) and a movable bearing (7). The supporting bearing (34) connects the housing (8) with the holder (6). The housing 8 is swivelable about the supporting bearing (34). The housing (8) takes support on the movable bearing (7) which comprises a pin (3) rigidly coupled directly to the wheel suspension (38). By coupling the movable bearing (7) directly to the wheel suspension and supporting the lining in a tangential direction directly on the entering side, maximum utilization of the radial space, an increase of the effective radius, and a reduction of the thermal load of the brake are achieved.

  • Patent number: 5193887
Abstract: This is a circuit configuration provided for an anti-lock-controlled brake system and serving for processing sensor signals obtained by wheel sensors (5) and for generating braking pressure control signals. This circuit configuration contains two microcontrollers (1, 2) interconnected by data exchange lines (7). The handled signals are concurrently processed by the microcontrollers independently of one another and the exchanged signals are checked for consistency. A deviation of the exchanged signals which is due to malfunctions is signalized to a safety circuit (8) which, thereupon, interrupts the power supply to the solenoid valves (Ll . . . Ln). The monitoring signal (WD1, WD2) fed to the safety circuit (8) is a predetermined alternating signal in case of consistency of the exchanged signals and in case of proper operation of the circuit configuration.

  • Patent number: 5192120
Abstract: A brake pressure control system with an anti-locking control is presented which is operated with hydraulic fluid including a master cylinder and a plurality of valves for the modulation of the hydraulic pressure in the wheel cylinders of the wheel brakes during a brake pressure control mode, and at least one motor-driven pump (48). An axially movable rotor (66) of the motor (14) is furnished with a thrust member (49) which shifts upon motor start up to actuate a control valve. The fluid connection between the master cylinder (37) and the wheel cylinder (43) is thereby interrupted almost instantaneously. Also, by actuating the valve, fluid flows through a flow limiting valve (59), delivered by the pump (48), into the wheel cylinder (43). A rapid pressure reduction is achieved in the wheel cylinder.

  • Patent number: 5188433
Abstract: In an anti-lock brake system, a differential pressure limiter (8) is connected in front of the inlet valve (6). This causes a defined pressure gradient to always prevail at the inlet valve (6), what appreciably reduces the noise emission of the valve during an anti-lock braking operation. Since the inlet valve (6) has a slight throttling effect in its opened position, it may occur that on brake operation with cold brake fluid a pressure gradient is generated at the inlet valve (6) which results in the differential pressure limiter closing. It is therefore suggested to arrange a bimetal spring (20) in parallel to the control spring (15) of the differential pressure limiter (8), which bimetal spring expands at low temperatures and cases a force in addition to the spring force of the control spring (15) to act on the control piston.

  • Patent number: 5179834
Abstract: A setting method for minimizing the closure travel of a central valve in a master cylinder is proposed, wherein, after the assembly of all internal parts except the stop (10), the internal parts having a position which corresponds to the inoperative position, the distance (y) between that end of the axial extension (12) which is on the actuating side and a fixed point is measured and wherein then, in dependence upon the measured distance (y) a stop (10) is chosen such that the desired closure travel (x) between the closing body (13) and the valve seat (14) of the central valve is established. By means of said method the closure travel of the central valve (x) is exactly adjustable irrespective of the tolerances of other component parts or a preceding power booster.

  • Patent number: 5176432
Abstract: A brake pressure control apparatus for automotive vehicles with an anti-locking control system (ABS) and/or with a traction slip control system (TSS) is presented. In the inlet line to the wheel cylinder an inlet valve is provided which affords a change-over from an orifice function into a flow limiting valve function at a predetermined wheel cylinder pressure. Flow is initially through an orifice (6) in a control slide valve piston (20), held in its initial position by a prestressing spring (23) acting through an auxiliary piston in engagement with control slide valve piston (20). An increase in pressure in the wheel cylinder (13), also exerted in the wheel cylinder pressure chamber (9), to a predetermined level, causes the auxiliary piston (27) to disengage from the control slide valve piston (20), preventing the force of the prestressing spring (23) from acting on the control slide valve piston (20).
