Patent number: 5114487Abstract: A cementitious composition comprises a ground sulfoaluminous clinker, a ground Portland cement clinker (preferably rapid hardening Portland cement clinker), calcium sulfate, aggregate (especially sand and a coarse aggregate such as granite) and metal (e.g. stainless steel) fibers. The composition may also comprise a plasticizer and agents for controlling setting and hardening. The reinforced concrete produced from the compositions is useful in offshore applications, e.g. as a coating for the weld areas between lengths of steel pipe to be laid under water.Type: GrantFiled: January 25, 1991Date of Patent: May 19, 1992Assignee: Blue Circle Industries PLC and ALH Systems LimitedInventors: Gavin C. Patent number: 5043537Abstract: An insert part for sealing a cable junction having a flange of heat-conductive material and a block of heat-fusable material connected to the flange also has a support member, preferably of heat-conductive material, projecting from the block. The support member has a part within the block shaped to provide a pair of opposed concave surfaces, positioned so that the concave surfaces open in opposite directions. The block may comprise a relatively thick central part and webs extending outwardly from the corners of that central part. Preferably, two flanges are provided, one on each side of the support member.Type: GrantFiled: October 19, 1989Date of Patent: August 27, 1991Assignees: Fujikura Ltd., Alh Systems LimitedInventor: Philip J. Patent number: 4920236Abstract: To seal a cable junction, an insert is placed between two branch cables of the junction, which is then enclosed by a heat shrinkable envelope. The insert has at least one insert part having a block of heat fusible material attached by one or more flanges of heat conductive material to the branch cables. The block lies between the branch cables at least partially inside the envelope. Then, when the envelope is heated to cause it to shrink, the block fuses, thus forming a seal. For most sizes of branch cables, two insert parts may be used, but three or more may be used for large branch cables. The flange preferably has a tongue extending into the block to assist heat conduction.Type: GrantFiled: March 20, 1989Date of Patent: April 24, 1990Assignees: Fujikura Ltd., ALH Systems LimitedInventors: Minoru Makiyo, Shigenori Goto, Hiroshi Yokosuka, Robert L. Curtis, Philip J. Wade

Patent number: 4627470Abstract: In an iris-stop arrangement for stopping-off a duct the secondary bag has a contact length with the duct of at least 0.7 times its diameter. The apparatus is such that the point where the inflation neck of the bag meets the remainder of the bag can adopt a position not substantially in front of the secondary bag support member. Thus the bag has improved functional grip on the duct and does not suffer severe flexing at the neck when it moves back to rest against the support member. Preferably the portion of the bag which contacts the duct in use is a single layer of fabric thick while the ends of the bag, which have to withstand the bag inflation pressure unsupported, are two layers thick. In this way the bag can have good performance characteristics while only needing a relatively small insertion hole in the side of the duct.Type: GrantFiled: June 1, 1984Date of Patent: December 9, 1986Assignee: ALH Systems LimitedInventor: Alec R. Patent number: 4601604Abstract: An expansion joint for sealing the channel between two sections of roadway has a plug and a fluid-polymer poured into the joint and allowed to set in situ in the channel. Enclosed within the fluid is a core of a mastic material which is more plastic and less elastic than the fluid-polymer. The elasticity of the fluid-polymer allows the joint to accommodate changes in the size of the joint due to e.g. thermal expansion and contraction. Plastic flow of the core permits changes of shape of the joint to be absorbed without causing excessive stressing of the sides of the channel to which the fluid-polymer adheres.Type: GrantFiled: July 25, 1983Date of Patent: July 22, 1986Assignee: ALH Systems LimitedInventors: John R.
